What is heritage……? Is it an old castle….or a local swimming pool? Is it a book about Queen Elizabeth…or recordings of women talking about coming to Manchester from Jamaica, in the 60s? Is it a Roman serving bowl in a cabinet in a museum….or Sarah’s gran’s recipe for Manchester tart, that she got from her grandmother?

Who Can Apply? Public or not-for-profit organisations such as: Community or voluntary groups Local authorities Other public sector organisations Parish Councils Charities All organisations must have a constitution / set of rules and a bank account

Things to think about when planning a project Does the project have a clear heritage focus clear? Is the heritage important and who is it important to? Have specific audiences been identified? Is there a need and demand for your project? Does your project offer good value for money?

Your Heritage case study 1 Title: The Distance We Have Travelled Applicant: Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Education Trust Grant Awarded: £45,000 Carried out 44 oral histories with Kurdish, Somali and Afghan refugee communities in Manchester, to capture their experiences of fleeing their own countries and settling in the UK Created a publicly accessible archive as a study resource Produced an exhibition and education learning pack
