Israel Vs. Palestine Today

Last Pieces of Palestine 500,000 flee from Israelis into these areas: Gaza Strip – Ruled by Egypt. Small area along western border. West Bank – Large area near Jerusalem, controlled by Jordan. Golan Heights – Ruled by Syria, On northeast border – Gaza and West Bank invaded and seized. Flee into Jordan and Lebanon.

Diaspora of Palestinians? Late 60’s – 1 mill Palestinian refugees are scattered throughout the Arab nations. Some found new lives, some wait in refugee camps for the shot to reclaim their homeland.

P.L.O. PLO Palestinian Liberation Organization(PLO) – Palestinian government in exile. PLO doesn’t recognize Israel as country, want to be liberated and get homeland back. Some PLO extremists begin to Hijack, Kill, raid, and bomb Israeli vehicles and people.

Israel Fights Back Israel sees ALL P.L.O. as terrorists, attacks many refugee camps suspecting they support the PLO – PLO chased out of Lebanon. Israel takes control of Gaza and West Bank.

Peace in the Middle East Many U.S. Presidents have attempted to help establish Peace in Israel Israel gives up West Bank and Gaza Strip. Peace is short – Intifada occurs (Palestine – resist oppression, Israel – Terror Attack) Include suicide bombings.

Hamas Hamas is a small political and military group of Palestinians. Considered terrorists. Hamas has been responsible for most bombings and attacks on Israel. Caused a civil war with other Palestinian factions. Extremist group responsible for many suicide bombings and child shields.

Hamas vs Israel 2005 ceasefire ends when Israeli bombs tunnel Hamas used to move weapons and civilian goods ceasefire, Israelis killed 6 Hamas in Gaza Strip. Respond with 190 home-made rockets. 4/9/09 – Obama supports 2-state solution. “Israel confused the anti-occupation struggle of Palestine with terrorism and sold it to the U.S.”
