COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS STANDARDS PARTLY ‘BORROWED’ FROM KATHY LAISE’S PRESENTATION AT THE ESL INNOVATIONS CONFERENCE

DISCLAIMER… We aren’t experts! We wanted to have an opportunity to look at the CCRS together.

SIDE BY SIDE OF WHAT WE KNOW  College and Career Readiness Standards Document  6 Strands (standards): Reading, Foundational Reading, Writing, Language, Listening and Speaking, Math  Anchors of Strands (components of standard)  Level-specific descriptions (indicators and TLO’s)  Levels A-E  Washington State Learning Standards Curriculum Frameworks  5 Standards: Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Math  Standards  Components of the standard  Indicators  Examples of proficient performance  Teaching and Learning Objectives  Illustrations  Levels 1-6

LET’S TAKE A LOOK…  For about 20 minutes:  Gather in groups of 4-5.  Take a look at the reading strand together.  Select an anchor (any level of your choosing) to focus on.  Consider these questions:  What one word best describes how you feel about the transition to CCRS?  How do you think your faculty will respond to CCRS?  What do you think will be the biggest challenge?  If we have the option, do you hope to transition to CCRS over the course of: 1 year, 2 years, 3 years  What (brief) ideas do you have for beginning your implementation plan?  What overlaps do you see with this shift to CCRS and other program shifts happening?  How have you already begun to make these shifts?

DEBRIEF QUESTIONS  Submit your group’s responses on polleverywhere.com or by texting
