Our Support Partners so far…

Tackling Gurgaon’s Water Crisis….Agenda Gurgaon is facing a serious water scarcity situation. What makes the situation worse is the fact that the city has no natural sources of water and ground water reserves are fast depleting. Another serious issue is that water is still not metered in Gurgaon. Unmetered supply is leading to low priority given by consumers to this precious resource and hence there is rampant mismanagement and wastages. Besides, water supply and distribution infrastructure in the city needs to be revamped. There are leakages in pipes that lead to loss of water. There is very little focus on water conservation, recycle and reuse. Rainwater harvesting has been made mandatory in 2012, yet very little water is being saved and collected through this means. Recycling of sewage water also needs to be undertaken urgently. Both these measures will help increase the ground water levels. Finally, people who live in villages in and around Gurgaon do not have access to safe and adequate water. This issue also needs to be addressed as well.

Tackling Gurgaon’s Water Crisis….Key Questions Some of the issues that the workshop would seek answers today are How serious is the water problem in Gurgaon? How are authorities viewing this issue and what is their action plan? How can we have better structures, systems, technology and infrastructure in place to improve the water systems? How can water supply sources be augmented? What role can ordinary citizens and RWAs play at a local level do to make a difference? How can rain water harvesting be implemented more effectively? How can the poor people in Gurgaon access safe and affordable drinking water?

Tackling Gurgaon’s Water Crisis….Programme There will be three distinct sessions during the workshop These are: How serious is Gurgaon’s water problem? Policy Perspective & Government Initiatives Possible Solutions and Way Forward We intend to have some top-notch speakers senior officials from Water Management Companies, Municipal Corporation and HUDA, Pollution Control Boards, Gurgaon’s water experts that will talk about the problems and possible solutions. Delegates will be key stakeholders from authorities, water supply management companies, water experts, RWAs, residents, NGOs. The workshop is proposed to take place in September 2013.
