Server Virtualization-VMware Server Virtualization: vSphere Licensing for Server Virtualization is licensed on a per processor basis with a limit on vRAM based on the version purchased with no limit on the number of processor cores. Most servers have 2 processors so they would be limited to 128GB RAM with the Enterprise version that is on the contract. That’s not typically a problem since the number of virtual servers isn’t large enough to require more than GB RAM at the most. Desktop Virtualization-Windows Microsoft Windows 7 Professional License and Media - 32 bit $ Each virtual desktop must have a Windows License for the virtual machine the same as if it was physical. There are several ways you can accomplish this: There is a new licensing program for desktops we are gathering all the information on. It is called FTE licensing where you follow a formula and you are charged only a yearly fee for each Full Time Employee that utilizes a computer. The students are covered on this type of program at no extra charge. This includes windows 7 Enterprise, Office 2010, and the core cal, all with Software Assurance. This price is approximately $55.00 per FTE per year. You do not own the software and you must renew yearly. Whatever you use to access the virtual desktop must be licensed based on what the device is. If it’s a full Windows desktop it must have the proper license. If you use a tablet, zero client, thin client, Linux OS, or any other non-Windows client you only have to comply with the manufacturer on that device.
