 In South Asians cardiovascular disease rates are 2-4 times higher than Europeans, African American and other ethnic populations  South Asians have high rates of premature cardiovascular disease (<40) and are younger at the time of hospitalization with respect to heart attacks  Research has found that members of the South Asian community may have a genetic predisposition to developing cardiovascular disease.
