Summary of Progress to Date

Objective 1 – Strategy 1 CURRICULUM - WHAT WE WANT STUDENTS TO KNOW Develop and implement data-driven curriculum that provides instructional materials and instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners Activities and Task Year 1Comments Curriculum maps to ensure alignment (Year 1 – Math)   Curriculum and assessment maps for elementary math underway  Curriculum maps for math developed for grades 6, 7 and 8  Common assessments developed at middle grades  Work to align Algebra I and Geometry with EOC examinations Supplemental materials to fill gaps (Year 1 – Math)   Materials for new third year math courses at high school on order Needs-based adoption of new materials   Implemented new Algebra I books (Holt)  Approved two courses for third year of math at high school – Financial Fitness and Advanced Algebra Prep (Materials on order)  Limited funds did not provide opportunity for full subject review Increase teacher knowledge and skills in math   Development of Instruction and Assessment Map aligned with Bridges Mathematics curriculum provided opportunity to deepen teacher knowledge of math standards at elementary grades  Math departments at secondary level used some collaboration time to align assessments and curriculum to standards  = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur

CURRICULUM - WHAT WE WANT STUDENTS TO KNOW Develop and implement data-driven curriculum that provides instructional materials and instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners Activities and TaskYear 1Comments Increase teacher knowledge and skills in science   Elementary Science Review Team met to review current sequence of FOSS science kits to revised science standards and make recommendations for changes  Science departments at secondary level used some collaboration time to align common assessments and curriculum to standards Develop a matrix of guiding questions   Guiding questions were developed. Implement the use of guiding questions for decision making  Activity/task scheduled to begin in school year  = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur

Objective 1 – Strategy 2 ASSESSMENT - HOW WE WILL KNOW STUDENTS HAVE LEARNED Instructional staff at all levels (administrators, teachers, instructional paraeducators) have the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to appropriately utilize data to guide decisions which support increased achievement for all students Activities and TaskYear 1Comments Provide training in the use of desktop data tools to analyze the instructional needs of students   Leadership team training of SOAR provided  Initial training to utilize SOAR provided in all schools School improvement planning teams utilize both qualitative and quantitative data   Building improvement teams utilizing data, documented in school improvement plans  Staff members at both LMS and LHS utilized many kinds of data throughout the accreditation process School improvement plans align with the district’s Theory of Action   School Improvement Plans focus on the district’s Theory of Action Instructional staff participate in the school improvement planning process   Instructional staff members participated in the school improvement process  = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur

Objective 1 – Strategy 3 INSTRUCTION – HOW WE WILL HELP STUDENTS LEARN Instructional staff at all levels (administrators, teachers, instructional paraeducators) have knowledge, skills and abilities to seamlessly integrate the Five Dimensions (5D’s) of Teaching and Learning--Student Engagement, Purpose, Curriculum and Pedagogy, Culture and Climate and Assessment/Evaluation in instructional practice Activities and TaskYear 1Comments Administrators provide consistent training for instructional staff on the 5Ds   Provided training for staff members in each building about purpose.  Continued work to integrate and improve effective Student Engagement instructional strategies (This looked different in each school) Administrators and instructional staff are trained to participate in Instructional Rounds   Principals facilitated instructional rounds, providing training, protocols and structure for teachers Administrators and instructional staff participate in Instructional Rounds to improve practice   Two days of instructional walk-throughs for all staff offered in each building  = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur

Objective 2 – Strategy 1 SUPPORT SYSTEMS – WHAT WE WILL DO TO SUPPORT STUDENTS The Lakewood School District will provide a variety of remediation programs and supports for students who may be at risk for on-time graduation. Activities and Task Year 1Comments Expand online credit recovery and remediation options for grades   Successfully piloted APEX at the middle school with one student  Plans in place for additional use at LMS next year Explore alternative program options for grades 6-12   Secondary administrators researched alternative learning options and programs  Conducted site visits to four district program, with plans for one additional visit Clearly articulate graduation requirements and assessment options to students and parents 6-12   Counselors met with each class/grade level  Counselors conducted individual conferences with each student to plan courses and schedules for next year  Reviewed current procedures and practices for improvement next year  = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur

SUPPORT SYSTEMS – WHAT WE WILL DO TO SUPPORT STUDENTS The Lakewood School District will provide a variety of remediation programs and supports for students who may be at risk for on-time graduation. Activities and Task Year 1Comments Develop effective Student Learning Plans for at risk students in categorical programs   Student Learning Plans developed for at-risk students (LAP, ELL etc) Offer Cougar Academy extended learning opportunities as funding allows   Due to decline in enrollment and subsequent funding issues, we did not offer Cougar Academy Research and implement transition strategies for K-12 students  Action plan for transition to three K-5 schools developed Tentative staffing assignments made Progress to meet curriculum, technology, and facilities needs on schedule  = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur

Objective 2 – Strategy 2 SUPPORT SYSTEMS –PARTNERSHIPS WITH FAMILIES FOR STUDENT SUCCESS The Lakewood School District will provide a variety of opportunities and events to increase student and parent involvement in the planning for on-time graduation in grades Activities and Task Year 1Comments Increase parent and student understanding of graduation requirements and options beginning in middle school   Eighth grade parent night held at LHS, enhanced with additional staff participation  Explored options for high school parent conference models Increase student and parent involvement in academic and co- curricular activities   Needs assessment for grades 6-12 conducted in used to inform plans for events and activities Gather parent input to improve Student Learning Plans and partner with parents   Parents provided input on learning plans through ELL Parent Nights, Title/LAP parent meetings and during conferences Research and evaluate supplementary materials for extended learning and remediation   Aligned Title, LAP, and Special Education curriculum for K-5  Identified materials to be used Request approval of supplementary materials from Curriculum Council  Activity scheduled to begin in school year  = Year the activity or task is scheduled to occur
