Vocabulary/Grammar  Choose the best answer and record your data!

Chapter 12 1.Write three tone words for chapter 12. Find quotes from the chapter for evidence. 2.Who do you believe killed the man and the boy who decided to leave the village? Was it the rebels or the soldiers, in order to make a point? Explain your answer. 3.What do the cassettes being thrown into the fire and the melting symbolize? 4.The lieutenant tells the boys to “Visualize the banana tree as the enemy, the rebels who killed your parents, your family, and those who are responsible for everything that has happened to you.” How did this make their training effective? 5.How has Ishmael changed in chapter 12? Give at least two examples of this change.

Finish Writing for Article of the Week Use your template to organize your thoughts and ideas. You must have 5 well thought-out and developed paragraphs. Your introduction must include your thesis. Each paragraph must have a strong claim (topic sentence) You must also include transitions between paragraphs. Remember to FEED your paragraphs –include facts, examples, evidence, and details. Once you are finished writing: Highlight/underline your Thesis- Blue Claims-Yellow Transitions- Pink FEED- Green You will have 10 minutes to complete!

Chapters 13 and 14  Give three examples of imagery.  “I raised my gun and pulled the trigger, and I killed a man.” Why was this a turning point in Ishmael’s life? Give examples of how he started to change after this event.  What is the purpose of having the boys using so many drugs?  “When we ran out of food, drugs, ammunition and gasoline to watch war films, we raided rebel camps, in towns, villages, and forests. We also attacked civilian villages to capture recruits and whatever else we could find.” Are the soldiers any different than the rebels?
