Sept 30 Stewardship Message A Christian Steward is compassionate and loving

As you know our mission statement for Stewardship is “ Stewardship is a way of life. Today is the kickoff of Broadways Stewardship campaign. Over the next 4 weeks you will hear from several leaders of various aspects of our church ministry. Our goal is to let you know what they have accomplished and what they would like to do if the resources were available. As you know many of our efforts require not only finical support but also dedicated people to give of their time and talent to meet the needs of others. As your Outreach committee chair I would like you to know Broadway has had a busy year helping those in need Our church members have 1.Feed hundreds of people through our Brown food pantry 2.Supported St Andrews church in hosting Family Promise weeks each Quarter 3.Helped The Food connection raise >$16, Members participated in a Medical Mission trip to Mexico 5.Our Youth were able to take mission trips to Haiti, Africa and Virginia. 6.We had > 60 people volunteer to pack and distribute Sweet potatoes to area food banks 7.Our helping hands ministry has aided more then 400 people with hotel, utility bills 8.We support 3 United Methodist missionaries through donations to the conference.

A Christian Steward is compassionate and loving As the chairman of Outreach I get the honor to talk to you about how our efforts have touched others and how they have touched me. I want you to know how humbling it is to be handing out shopping lists for the Food Connection to costumers at Wal- Mart and have a person tell you “ Are you going to be here tomorrow? When I answered yes they said great! I get my Food stamp card tomorrow so I will come back and buy stuff then! Does this remind you of the person in scripture who gave all they had even thought they had no extra? I also want you to know how rewarding it is to be a volunteer on a response team to a natural disaster. The incredible look of relief on a young Mothers face as our church van parked in her yard following Hurricane Floyd in Va was just inspiring. Her home had been flooded by a creek that backed up do to high water it flooded her home and of course since it had never flooded before she had no insurance. We were there to help her clean up and save as many of her possions as we could. If you have ever seen a flooded home you know how huge this task is.

A Christian Steward is compassionate and loving While we have done many good things we would like to do more. We want to define and enhance the Brown Food Pantry Ministry to target those in our community who have the greatest need. We would like to partner with the Fort Craig Boys and Girls Club by providing tutors as they expand how many children they can help. We want to sponsor a food drop here in Maryville each year Continue to support food drives for the Food Connection Obtain USDA approval to accept food stamps for our One Harvest Food Box Ministry Obtain an agreement to work with a bulk food purchaser to extend our food dollars for the Brown Food Pantry Have designated funds for Mission trips to support members of our congregation when they are called to make overseas missions Have a group of trained volunteers to support local disaster response through the Holston Conference Support Habitat for Humanity through manpower and money Help our members to support those in need as they feel called to use their gifts.

A Christian Steward is compassionate and loving When you receive the Stewardship letter for our pledge campaign take some time to read it carefully and please fill our both the pledge card and the interest survey. We request that each person and each Youth family member fill out the interest survey so that our committee chairs can contact you to help match your calling and gifts to church needs. We have placed copies of these surveys at various locations throughout the church or they can be obtained from the church office. As you fill these documents out please pray for Gods Blessing on your Family and Our church. As you do this think of the message in the Following Scriptures. Acts 20, Paul's message to EphesiansAnd now I commend you to God and to the message of his grace, a message that is able to build you up and to give you inheritance among all who are sanctified. I converted no one’s silver or gold or clothing. You know for yourselves that I worked with my own hands to support myself and my companions. In all this I have given you an example that by such work we must support the weak, remember the words of the Lord Jesus, for he himself said, It is more blessed to give then to receive

A Christian Steward is compassionate and loving And Mark 12, One of the Scribes came near and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well he asked him, Which commandment is the first of all? Jesus answered The first is Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is You shall love your neighbor as yourself There is no other commandment greater then these. Thank you: and may God continue to bless each of you as you remember that A Christian Steward is compassionate and loving
