NRCan’s OEE supports EnerGuide for New Houses (EGNH):  Here is a home whose builder has the confidence to have it tested so you can make an informed consumer decision ENERGY STAR for New Homes pilot project - Ontario:  No need to look any further, this home is comfortable to live in and among the most energy efficient on the market The R-2000 Standard:  Here is a leading edge standard that incorporates advanced energy efficiency technologies. It is healthier and more comfortable to live in.

Program Goals  Support regional programs such as Built Green (AB- BC), ENERGY STAR (ON), and PowerSmart (MB)  Highlight a home’s energy-saving features  Encourage buyers and builders to invest in EE upgrades  Offer training and tools for builders to identify areas that can be improved  All manufacturers or retailers in this room have some form of relationship with a builder(s)

Who is EnerQuality?  EGNH/R-2000 Service Organization in Ontario  Manages and delivers the ENERGY STAR for New Homes pilot project  Mandate is to drive consumer demand and work with builders to sell and build more energy efficient houses  Focus this year is to invest in and develop the require labelling infrastructure to deliver these programs

Pilot Project  Extended to March 31, 2007  Over 100 houses labeled and 500 enrolled  Over 80 builders are involved  Current average EGNH rating is 78  Incentives available from Enbridge Gas Distribution and CMHC

Technical Specifications  ENERGY STAR qualified space and water heating and space cooling equipment  ENERGY STAR qualified patio doors, skylights, and windows (as of April 1, 2006)  Builder and advisor must hold a valid ENERGY STAR Administrative Arrangement and be trained and certified by EnerQuality Corporation  EnerGuide for New Houses (EGNH) rating of 78 or higher  EnerQuality has made additional requirements such as 1000 kWh savings, airtightness, ventilation and duct sealing requirements.

2 Compliance Routes As defined in the ENERGY STAR Technical Specifications  Prescriptive Path: Builder Option Packages Trade-offs 1000 kWh savings  Performance Path = EGNH 78, plus  EnerQuality’s ENERGY STAR Technical Committee reviews proposed changes and alternate compliance options

How do Raters Participate?  Potential raters contact EnerQuality Corporation to obtain appropriate training, agreements and certification  Raters work with builders to perform plan evaluations and on-site evaluations of houses as they are completed  Raters work with builders to help them promote ENERGY STAR  Raters often use the EGNH service to help train builders and their sales and site staff

How do Builders Participate?  Builders contact EnerQuality Corporation to obtain appropriate training, agreements and locate an ENERGY STAR rater in their area  Builders work with an ENERGY STAR rater to perform plan evaluations and schedule on-site evaluations of the houses as they are completed  Some builders promote ENERGY STAR as a standard spec others use it as an upgrade (often with an EGNH option)

Labeling Procedure  Home enrolment form is under development  As builders complete houses, they contact their rater to perform an evaluation to ensure that the house meets the Tech Specs  If 3 or more houses are ready for inspection, random sampling is an option
