Nuns On The Run – Trinity Explanation

Nuns On The Run - Classroom

John 14:1-7 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.“

Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"  Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."

John 14:8-14 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us." Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing.

He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

John 14:15-17, 25-26 "If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

"All this I have spoken while still with you  "All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counsellor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty, God in three persons, glorious Trinity.

God the Father Why do Christians explain God as a parent? Write down as many characteristics of God as a parent as you can.

2. God the Son Why do Christians believe they can know God through Jesus? What did he say and do to show them who God is?

3. God the Holy Spirit How does the Holy Spirit show Christians who God is? How do the symbols: fire, water, dove, wind/breath help Christians understand God through the Holy Spirit?

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.  We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, THE CREED

eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

How does the Trinity help Christians to understand a transcendent God?

On the next few slides there is an example of some LITURGY that Christians say together. It shows their belief in the Trinity. Write your own liturgy for Christians to use in worship..

L: We love you God P: As Father, our Creator L: We serve you God P: As Jesus, the Son, our Redeemer

L: We listen and obey you God P: As the Holy Spirit, our Sustainer, Guide and Life Giving One. L: God is one. P: Yet God is three.

To you, the three in one and one in three, we give thanks. Touch, O Lord, our hearts and our minds.

Help us to make our faith deep and true, and our actions bold and loving. Help us to be ones who share your gospel

Three in one, and one in three. Amen. We worship you as Creator Father, as Christ Jesus the Son, and as Life giving Holy Spirit. Three in one, and one in three. Amen.

He believed in one God – Father, Son and Holy spirit. The following slide is used in Christian worship. It was first written by Paul and can be found in the New testament in one of his letters to a church. He believed in one God – Father, Son and Holy spirit.

The Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Love of God and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all evermore Amen.
