In Because of Winn-Dixie a girl was at a grocery store called Winn-Dixie she was at the store and all of a sudden a huge fight starts happening between the owner of the store and a dog who is poor and hungry and he said if someone didn’t claim the dog he would take it to the pound. The girl didn’t want the poor dog to go to the pound so she lied and said the dog was hers. She named the dog Winn-Dixie after the grocery store. She kept the dog. One day she was walking home with her two enemies Dunlap and Stevie. All of a sudden Winn-Dixie disappears into what they call the witches house. Opal slowly makes her way in there to get her dog back. She gets back there and she sees Winn-Dixie getting fed peanut butter by a older lady. Her name is Gloria Dump and everyone thinks she is a witch. But Opal learns that she really is this nice lady. She meets Otis at the pet store and he learns he has been in jail for playing his guitar on the street. In the morning before the store opens he lets all the animals out of their cages and plays his guitar from them. He does this because he know how it feels to be locked up. She meet Ms. Franny at the library and she tells her about the war and explains that the building by Gloria Dump’s garden used to be a candy factory from years ago. Opal meets lots of characters and she is even invite to her first birthday party from Sweetie Pie. At the end of the book, they have a party because Opal feels bad for Otis and tells him to bring his guitar. At the party, a thunderstorm happens and everything is destroyed. So they ended up having the party inside. Winn-Dixie has a philosophical fear of thunderstorms so Opal had assumed that he ran away. So she spends the whole night looking for him. She comes back with nothing. Otis was playing his guitar and everyone was quiet sitting down inside. Read the book to find out if she finds Winn-Dixie.
