Why Soft Skills? For a Smooth Professional Life For More Integrated Operation For More Effective Management To Integrate Strategic Goals For More Appealing Personality

The most three important elements of the soft skills 1- Inter Personal Behavior 2- Team Work 3- Discipline

Inter Personal Behavior Must be friendly with everybody : customers, colleagues, superiors, juniors Must not be an introvert Must not be interfering in others jobs Must not hurt others feelings Must not allow friendship or other relationships to affect work Must appear confident while speaking to people Good body language

Team Work Ability to work in a team Share knowledge within the team Willingness to learn from others Willingness to adopt any role as required in a team Willingness to help weak members of a team Willingness to learn from stronger members of a team Must be a active participant in team’s operations Must be able to interface with other teams for information / work sharing

Discipline Most important for success Discipline must be present in everything we do : work, documentation, behavior, following rules of the company and team Reporting responsibilities Discipline must be shown at all work places : office, customer premises, etc

So what are soft skills & how are they relevant to me as an engineer? soft skills are the techniques you need to work with others . The things you were not taught in engineering school . Skills like a working in a team , networking with other engineers , public speaking , successfully & gracefully convincing others of your viewpoint all are considered to be soft skills .

Why do I need soft skills when I possess the technical skills? In this competitive market , highly successful professional engineers those who are not only technically astute , but often possess that something “extra”……. Engineers usually involve working with others “TEAMWORK”

How can you start developing the necessary soft skills NOW ? Take the student success check-up which can help you identify some of your strengths & weaknesses that may have an impact on your success at university . Be sure to follow up with an individual or group session to understand the result an make a personal action plan . Take the Meyers briggs Type Inventory to learn more about your self & how you can make you personality work for you .

Attend counselling and development workshops , or other seminars within the university , so you can develop and practice yours skills . Get involved in group projects & take your group assignment seriously . Become an active member in at least one society . Association or club on campus . Consider participating in the engineering games or an engineering competition .

VOLUNTEER in group events activities & association to IMPROVE YOUR SOCIAL SKILLS !! Don’t wait until your final year to prepare good resume . And keep your resume up - to - date and ready to show your potential employers . Choose your electives & non- core courses carefully to round out your skills & knowledge .It’s a good idea to take some management COURSES .

Remember Good soft skills & extra curricular experiences can give you and added edge!! But of course don’t forget about the technical learning part & do your best in our courses !!

THANK YOU
