NTRIP Demo SatRef Launch to Gov’t users 21 June 2006 Kenny CHAN – ALS/G(1)

Why NTRIP? Using DGPS / RTK  Require Real-time Delivery of GPS data & corrections Existing modes of delivery:  1-to-1 connection – GSM/Radio linkage  Radio Broadcast – e.g. Kau Yi Chau DGPS  Satellites – e.g. WAAS Geo-stationary Satellites  SatRef GSM Connection GPRS with customized Pocket PC program

Why NTRIP? Using Internet  NTRIP – “Networked Transport of RTCM in Internet Protocol” RTCM standard since September 2004 Open, generic, non-proprietary application-level protocol Advantage of using Internet  Ubiquitous: Anytime, Anywhere, Live!  Network independent Wired Internet via Phone/Data Line / Power Line / Cable TV … etc. Wireless Internet via GPRS / EDGE / Wi-Fi / 3G / HSDPA … etc.  Device independent PC / Notebook / Tablet PC / PDA / 2G/3G Mobile phones / UMPC…

Using NTRIP Hardware – Connect to Internet  Any PC / PDA / Mobile devices connected to Internet Software – NTRIP Client  Demo: “GNSS Internet Radio for Windows”  Others: “GNSS Internet Radio for PPC”, “ArcNtrip”, “mobile-ntrip” … etc GPS Receivers  DGPS: e.g. Garmin e-Trex Summit receivers …  RTK: e.g. Leica GPS System 500 …

Using NTRIP NTRIP-ready GPS Instrument  e.g. Leica GPS System GSM/GPRS connection

NTRIP Client Demo Demo:  Get RTK Corrections from a GPS Reference Station in Frankfurt, Germany Procedures:  1. Connect the PC to Internet  2. Download a NTRIP Client software e.g. GNSS Internet Radio by BKG (Freeware)  3. Install and Run the program

NTRIP Client Demo  4. Enter NTRIPCaster Information Host Name, Port Number (usually 80 / 2101) Username, Password  5. Get and Select Stream from SourceTable Browse the Sources available Worldwide Download the stream  6. Decode the Received Data using RTCM decoder
