Conditions in climate differs from north to south. The north is cold and the south is warmer in Winter. The south is very hot and the north is mild in summer.

Food Japanese people eat rice, sushi and vegetables with chopsticks. They eat cooked grasshoppers. They also eat puffer fish but if not cooked properly it may be poisonous.

Clothing Japanese people wear traditional clothes called kimonos. The symbols of Japan are cherry blossoms and the crane. The crane is a type of bird and has a very long neck. Kimonos are worn on special accessions.

School School in Japan is very different to school in Australia. Children at Japanese school have to clean there own toilets and class rooms. There are over 1000 characters in the alphabet. Japanese children go to school between the ages of 6 and 15.

Transport The bullet train is the fastest train in Japan. Most people in Japan get to work and home again by train. Some people in Japan use a bus and only a small amount of people use cars. Trains run all day long. The fastest train in Japan is the bullet train.

Mt Fuji Mt Fuji is on the island of Honshu, in Japan. Mt Fuji is 3776 metres high. It is a dormant volcano, which means it is not active. Mt Fuji last erupted in It could erupt again! It takes nine hours to climb Mt Fuji. Mt Fuji is very sacred to many people in Japan. Mt Fuji has snow and ice on the top called summit. Thousands of people visit Mt Fuji every year.

Festivals The Children's festival is a traditional festival. It used to be the boys festival. There is still a girl festival and is also a traditional festival.
