Preparing a Quick and Effective LMI Presentation Al Lopez, Rural Capital WDB Clay Griffis, LMI/Dissemination 2003 LMI Conference, Austin, Texas

What to Include in Your Presentation Common Questions How do I decide what to talk about? What do I include/not include in my presentation?

What to Include in Your Presentation Answer: It depends!

What to Include in Your Presentation The #1 consideration is your AUDIENCE

Who’s Your Audience? Is Your Audience Made up of: Elected officials Economic developers/planners Career counselors Job seekers Educators Students Media

Who’s Your Audience? Other Important Considerations: What’s the focus of the event you are presenting at? Will it be just you presenting, or others too? What’s the level of knowledge of your audience?

What to Include in Your Presentation You must ALSO consider: Time - how much do you have? Resources - internet, personal contacts, software skills, etc. Not all statistical data is easily aggregated

A “Labor Market” Presentation Who are some of your audiences for a “Labor Market” presentation? What type of information/data might you want to include?

Jobs: How many JOBS and what KIND of jobs? Wages: What do jobs in the area PAY. Outlook: What are the past TRENDS? Can we speculate about the Future?
