I celebrated coming back to school by going to WWE Smackdown last Tuesday at HP Pavilion. 3. I traveled to Mexico this summer, and met James Franco while I was down there. Now its your turn. Turn the desks into groups of four. I will explain how I want you to do this, and we’ll time it to see how fast we can get back and forth between groups and rows. See if you can spot your groups’ lies.

Success is about Mindset Check out Kid 1: 0 Now Check out Kid 2: Who are you going to be in class this year?

Thinking Like a Historian Quote Wall Challenge. Challenge yourself to question everything this year. Several of the quotes on the wall are famous misquotes or miscontextualized.

Student Survey Please take the time to answer all the questions on the student survey, and write me a note to elaborate anywhere you want to, and everywhere it asks you to. The note you write me at the end can be as long or as short as you want, the more you let me know about your learning style, your likes and dislikes, and what you want to get out of class this year the better the semester will be.

Seniors Are Super! ● Please get out: – You signed CIS – Paper – Pen/Pencil I really enjoyed reading your letters/surveys. You are an interesting group of people with lots of cool hobbies/activities out side of class!

Free-write #1: ● What are 3 political issues—local, national, or international-- that matter to you? ● Why does each issue matter to you personally? ● What are all of the ways that this issue is affecting our society? ● What are the opposing forces involved in each issue? Get as specific as you can. ● How do you think each issue can and should be resolved?

TGIF! Please: 1. Grab a piece of candy. 2. Turn in your CIS 3. Get your poster 4. Start working on your poster – need to be finished with your poster by 10:40

Group Activity on Political Issues in US Society: ● Using large poster paper, develop a master list of all the political issues selected by each person in your group. ● Next, pick 4 issues above—at least one from each person—for an in-depth analysis. For each issue, discuss and write down/ diagram as much as you know about: – all of the specific ways that this issue is affecting our society—what are the many “symptoms”? – all of the root, historical causes of the issue—why does this issue exist? – questions you need to answer in order to better understand the issue

Gallery Walk As you view other group’s poster note what issues they have that are different from your group’s, and which issues they listed that are the same. Why might they have listed different issues? What factors contribute to why individuals feel a certain issue is or isn’t that important?

What are the factors which make this graph different in terms of what issues are most popular? on-facebook-in-2011/
