What is an Atlas?  An ATLAS is a bound volume of charts, plates, or tables illustrating any subject.*  Usually associated with a bound collection of maps. *According to

What is a Gazetteer?  A GAZETTEER is “a dictionary or encyclopedia listing alphabetically the names of places, political divisions, and physical features of the earth and giving some information about each.”*  Indexes and Atlases can also serve as gazetteers.**  A gazetteer contains three types of information about places: name, type of feature, and location.** *According to **According to University of Virginia Library website
