Presentation transcript:

Everman’s Kindergarten Kapers August 18, 2014 Learning Targets: (This is what is happening with our academics this week ~ by the end of the week your child will be able to…) Writing Workshop: ~ I can tell a story with pictures. ~ I can use the whole page. ~ I can add detail by using lots of color (5). Math Workshop: ~ I can identify objects as same or different. ~ I can sort objects by color, size, & shape. Reading Workshop: ~ I can actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding. Skills Block (Phonics): ~ I can say the letters of the alphabet in order. ~ I can start my letters at the top. ~ I can hold my pencil correctly. Lunchtime Guests - Please join us for lunch anytime. We have a special table reserved for you and your child on your visit. It is always a special treat to have a guest for lunch! We love to have Grandparents come also! Volunteers - Calling all volunteers! We need helpers for Kindergarten Cafe. Yes, we cook every Friday afternoon (1:15ish) with the letter of the week. It can be quite an adventure to cook with little ones so I really could use a couple of extra sets of hands! The Calendar in the BEE folder has the list of ingredients needed for our recipes. Thank you so much for your help! ~ Remember to be a volunteer or go on a field trip you must fill out the background check in the office. Make sure you sign in as a visitor and get your visitor’s pass in the lobby every time you visit our classroom. Special Classes - The students go to a different Special Class every day. Make sure you check the calendar in the BEE folder and have your child wear tennis shoes on PE days!!! Snack Calendar ~ The snack calendar is in your BEE Folder also. Please make sure you send in snack when it is your day. Individually wrapped snacks are the easiest to pass out (as we don’t have much time during the day). Please do not send in drinks (we will save drinks for special occasions like birthdays & classroom parties). We have a peanut allergy in our room so please try to avoid nut related snacks. Remember that everyone enjoys the snacks and Kindergarten Cafe – so be sure to send in your item when it is your turn! (If you have a problem with getting your snack or ingredient, please let me know – don’t leave us hanging…) Morning Arrival - In the mornings all students will go to the gym if they arrive at school before 7:55. They will be dismissed at 7:55 to the classroom. If you arrive after 7:55 your child may go directly to classroom. All students are expected to be in their seat ready to learn by 8:05. Students who eat breakfast at school must be there by 7:40 so they have enough time to eat & get to class on time. Happenings: Remind - Remind is a free service to teachers that allows me to send short text messages to our class. Please go to and follow the directions. You must do this to receive class updates! It is free and private ~ no one will see your phone number, not even me. Water Bottles - Water is good for the brain! Your child can keep a WATER bottle on their table during the day. It MUST be a spill proof bottle and ONLY can water. Extra Set of Clothes – Please send in a complete change of clothes for your child (pants, shirt, underwear, socks) in a zip lock bag. We will hang it in their locker. Sometimes accidents happen.

Transportation – Please know that I have to go by the transportation notes you made on your registration papers. If you need to make changes you must put it in writing and send it in a note to school. If you have a same day change that needs to be made please it to You will receive notification that it has been received. All changes must be received before 2:30 pm each day. General Information - The district website contains a link to Woodlawn for general school information. Our classroom newsletter will be posted there every week along with other important information. Welcome to our Woodlawn Family! ~ If you have any questions/concerns or just need to talk with me, please make an appointment. The best way is to send a note or call. The mornings are so busy it makes it hard to answer questions you have and welcome each student. It is going to be a great year!!! Sincerely, Mrs. Everman Dates to Remember: With the beginning of school we will have many safety drills. Please discuss these with your child and reassure them that these are just for practice so that we know how to be safe!
