What is LAPN? Local Authority Prevention Network Operating since 2006 Network of active local authorities working on waste prevention Share ideas, materials, case studies and experiences Nearly all local authorities have been involved, either directly or indirectly

What is waste prevention and why?

What “waste prevention” activities? Any initiatives: That are: making less waste; using less water, less energy or less materials Reusing, upcycling, repairing, swapping, exchanging, restoring; new life for old goods By the community, householders, businesses, schools, with your local authority, or other organisations

EPA Waste Prevention Award 2014 TidyTowns Special Awards Overall winner: €1000 Ballon Improvement Group, Co Carlow for “An Siopa Glas” – Not just a community shop for reuse but also taking local business remnants (sawmills, fabric) to make products, promoting skills, being used for events, and strong links to the school – Money made by the shop is reinvested back in projects for the village.
