Summary 1)What is AR? 2)Present Approaches 3)My Approach 4)Advantages 5)Goal? 6)Steps Involve 7)Challenges

What is AR? It is a process of superimposing computer generated images on to the user view of their surroundings. A combination of real environment and virtual reality. It helps in enhancing one’s current perception of reality in real time

Present Approaches 1.Head Mounted displays: a)Video see through devices - presents the feeds from the camera into the head mounted display. a)Optical see through devices combine visual images generated by computer with the actual view through a slanted semi-transparent mirror. 2. Mobile Phones

My Approach Video Eyewear as an Output Display  Uses a dedicated video screen for the virtual digital information on top of the real view  Permit user to see the real world in parallel with virtual information displayed on eyewear  Used for iPod, iPhone

Advantages Safe to use – no disturbance in field of view Easily Accessible – plenty of brands are available in market Convenient to use – worn on the eye rather than on head No Brightness issues

Goal? Video Eyewear as output display. Is it useful? How useful?

Steps Involve 1.Choosing Hardware & Software Software: Apple iOS, Android, Qualcomm AR Dev Kit Hardware: Apple iPod Touch, iPhone or any other smart phone Eyewear: iDesign glasses or myvu personal media viewer Tracking input devices: External GPS or compass (if required) 2.Development of Mobile App

Steps Involve (Cont) 3.Experiments on users Video eyewear will be placed just below the line of sight and only for virtual information Collection of user experience and feedback of using Video Eyewear for AR apps Comparison with Mobile Screen as an output display.

Challenges 1.Using the pose of eyewear rather than the pose of the camera on phone 2.Output display on eyewear rather than Mobile screen
