PARENT PACKET PLEASE READ WITH YOUR CHILD KEEP THIS AT HOME FOR REFERENCE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. IT IS ALSO POSTED ON OUR ONLINE CLASSROOM.ONLINE CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHTS FROM PARENT PACKET...

50 MINUTES, 4 NIGHTS PER WEEK INCLUDING: ASSIGNMENTS STUDY AND REVIEW PRACTICE SKILLS PROJECTS SILENT READING WHAT SHOULD PARENTS DO IF HOMEWORK EXCEEDS 50 MINUTES? WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE PARENT IN HOMEWORK? HOMEWORK POLICY

FIFTH GRADERS ARE EXPECTED TO FILL IN PLANNERS DAILY WITH HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS AND TAKE IT HOME. HOME-SCHOOL COMMUNICATION *IN ADDITION TO THE STANDARD SUPPLY LIST, WE ARE REQUESTING TWO DIFFERENT COLORED BINDERS AND 10 DIVIDERS. PLANNER

THE CLASSROOMS AT LEIGHTON ARE 100% NUT AND PEANUT FREE! STUDENTS MUST HAVE A HEALTHY SNACK THAT DOESN’T CONTAIN NUTS OR EXCESSIVE SUGARS. WATER BOTTLES ARE WELCOME WITH NAMES AND MUST BE TAKEN HOME EACH DAY. SNACKS

BIRTHDAYS ARE IMPORTANT TO OUR STUDENTS AND TO US! IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEND A TREAT TO CELEBRATE YOUR CHILD’S SPECIAL DAY, IT MUST BE INEDIBLE. HOWEVER, WE ALSO SUGGEST THAT IN LIEU OF AN EDIBLE TREAT, YOUR CHILD COULD DONATE A GAME OR BOOK TO THE CLASS IN HONOR OF THEIR BIRTHDAY. OTHER TREATS MAY INCLUDE BOOKMARKS OR PENCILS FOR THEIR CLASSMATES. BIRTHDAYS

WHEN A STUDENT HAS LOST OR FORGOTTEN THEIR HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT, HE OR SHE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FILLING OUT AN “EXCUSES! EXCUSES!” FORM AND THEN FOR COMPLETING THE ASSIGNMENT WITHIN ONE SCHOOL DAY! IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE STUDENT WILL BE ASKED TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT DURING RECESS TIME, BUT WE MAY ALSO EXPECT THE WORK TO BE FINISHED FOR HOMEWORK. “EXCUSES” FORMS WILL BE SENT HOME AT THE END OF EACH QUARTER WITH REPORT CARDS. IF A STUDENT REACHES 3 OR MORE “EXCUSES” CONSISTENTLY, WE WILL CONTACT THE PARENTS AT THAT TIME TO PUT A HOMEWORK PLAN IN PLACE. Excuses!

WHEN YOUR CHILD FORGETS THEIR WORK OR MATERIALS AT HOME, WE WILL NOT ENCOURAGE THEM TO PHONE HOME, NOR DO WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO RUSH TO SCHOOL FOR THEM. THE ONLY EXCEPTION TO OUR RULE IS IN THE CASE OF A FORGOTTEN INSTRUMENT. WE WANT TO CREATE RESPONSIBLE STUDENTS WHO LEARN TO LIVE BY THE OUTCOMES OF THEIR ACTIONS! I FORGOT...
