Unit 2 – PMD 1 Backstage Production Job Roles By Amy Vickers

Sound Engineer The sound engineers job is to use the sound equipment to play background sound effects for the production. The sound engineer must be able to create and follow cue sheets for each production. Many audio engineers creatively use technologies to produce sound for film, radio, television, music, electronic products and computer games. I found an example for a Studio sound engineer job profile which explains the work activities, working hours and conditions, income and interests. Salary: starts with £13,000 per year

My Experience For Who Wants To Pass Their Production Arts BTEC I had some experience being a sound engineer. I operated the sound desk and ensured all sound effects and background music was played at the correct time. This is an example of a music cue sheet

Stage Manager Stage Management is key for organizing and co-ordinating a theatrical production. Stage management involves a lot of activities including organizing the production and co coordinating communication between different people. A stage manager mainly ensures that the production is successful and runs smoothly. Typical work activities: Organizing and running rehearsals Arranging costume and wig fittings Distributing information to other theatre departments Supervising the 'get in' to the theatre, when the set, lighting and sound are installed, and the 'get out', when all the equipment is removed Calling actors/musicians for rehearsals

Technician Theatre technicians are responsible for ensuring that the lighting, sound and other technical aspects of theatre performances run safely, smoothly and on time. Theatre technicians work with the technical team and collate information with the other teams to ensure the ‘get in’ and ‘get out’ run smoothly. I done some research and found an example of a technicians job specification which includes the responsibilities for the technician.

Tour Manager The idea of using a tour manager is to make sure the tour is running smoothly, all band and crew are happy, performance revenue is being collected and tour-related bills are being paid. A band concert tour manager is the person who takes care of booking all the accommodation, transport, equipment and crew involved with the tour. The tour manager will then travel with the band on the road, dealing with all the day-to day problems as they arise. They also act as accountant; producing budgets, picking up cash for performances and paying suppliers and other expenses as the tour progresses. This is an example of a job description of a tour manager
