Physical and Chemical Changes

Physical Change Physical changes occur when matter changes its properties but does NOT change the composition. Changes what it looks like Physical changes can be “undone”

Physical changes in matter Choose 3 Examples for your notes Freezing Dissolving Cut Folded Shape Size Texture State of matter Volume Melting Mass/Weight Expected Color Change

Physical Change This is a physical change because water is changed to ice. This is a liquid changing to a solid which is a change in the state of matter only.

Chemical Change Chemical changes are changes matter undergoes when it becomes new or different matter. Chemical changes cannot be undone Burning, Rusting and Cooking a common examples of chemical changes

4 signs of a chemical reaction UNEXPECTED Color Change Gas Formation Precipitate Formation Temperature Change -Endothermic (inside) -Exothermic (outside)

Chemical Change A chemical change occurs when fireworks are used. Fireworks are made of metals such as magnesium and copper. These change chemically as they light up the sky.
