Model of military training – knowledge approach Igor Mokriš, Radoslav Forgáč WIKT 2006, – , Bratislava Institute of Informatics Slovak Academy of Sciences Bratislava, Slovakia

Outline System RAPORT Why ontology based workflow management in system RAPORT? Process of military exercise Workflow of administrative process in army training centers Basic functions of system RAPORT Ontology Model Architecture of system RAPORT

System RAPORT  designed for a pilot application – organization of military exercise in a Centrum of Simulation Technologies (CST) National Academy of Defense (NAD) in Liptovský Mikuláš (Slovakia)  CST organizes several overlapping military exercises during a training year  problems with large amount of documents and s  problems with knowledge management  problems with time management  knowledge system based on communications and a web portal

Why ontology based workflow management in the system RAPORT?  improves the quality of work  the large amount of documents and s has to be processed  this kind of work requires the broad knowledge of rules  goal: error-proof administrative processes  saves the processing cost  goal: avoid duplicities in user actions  time savings  documents can be quickly reused and processed according to its ontological description  user never needs to manually find related document  proposed system will inform user about the progress of current workflow activity  goal: effective document access and activities overview

Process of Military Exercise 1.determine the content, topics, tasks and targets of military exercise 2.preparing the scenarios of military exercise, simulation and technical plans, digital maps of terrain, etc. 3.performs by SW, which simulates military actions of officers 4.errors evaluation of military actions more important part of CST activities

Workflow of administrative process in army training centers (CST)

RAPORT Data Flow Diagram  workflow process is modelled by activities  every activity is described by its input/output (usually documents) and persons  the state of the workflow is defined by the context (activities, documents, persons)

Basic functions of system RAPORT Knowledge management  collect experience from users by using Active Notes  present experience to other users working in similar context by Active Notes Schedule management  check current training plans for important deadlines Templates distribution  prepare necessary information (predefined s, documents, formulas, …) before deadlines with user’s awareness Teamwork support  support user’s experience exchange and collaboration

RAPORT ontology Workflow model  description of workflow activities and events User model  description of users working on activities Data model  documents  types: , e-document, paper document, fax Ontology Workflow model User model Data model
