In August, 1962, artists and architects paraded, hoping to save the monumental building from demolition. B1

For a year, they fought to save McKim, Mead and White’s masterpiece. They met with the mayor and made front-page news. They lost. The station was gone by B1

Today, architects and city leaders call the demolition a moral outrage. "We knew we wouldn’t win, but we did hope to change the climate." B1
