Vladimir Nabokov  Born to noble family in Russia.  Was trilingual at an early age.  After WWI, the Nabokovs fled Russia for England, then Berlin. After his father was murdered, Nabokov became a poet, fleeing Berlin in 1940 to U.S.  Wrote Lolita, ranked 4 on the Modern Library’s 100 Best Novels. Pale Fire was ranked 53 on that list.  Nabokov is noted for his complex plots, clever word play, and use of alliteration.
