The Year of the Rose – 2002 ………………. Let’s celebrate it!

When will it take place? The American Rose Society is joined by rosarians and supporters around the world In declaring the year 2002 as the “Year of the Rose.” The celebration is not a single event, but a year-long campaign.

What is it all about? A marketing plan A grassroots effort A national outreach An international outreach

What do we want? Recognition of the ROSE as our National Floral Emblem. Wider public awareness of ARS and our goals. New members for our society. More public rose gardens. Rose horticulture – educational seminars for the general public. Opportunities to encourage more people to share our hobby - growing roses!

How will we do it? National publicity – congress acts! International Publicity – WFRS joins us! The florist industry Nurseries and Garden Centers join us! Cities and public gardens National Garden Clubs join us! Home Depot Macy’s … and more …

Joint Resolution A joint resolution of the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States of America designating 2002 as the "Year of the Rose" has been adopted.

ARS Presidential Proclamation "No other flower has played such a major role in our daily lives either through legend, medicine, music, leaders, literature capturing our affection, sharing in our celebrations and sometimes in our sadness."

WFRS Proclamation On April 23, 2000, at a meeting of delegates to the World Federation of Rose Societies held at Houston, TX, the following resolution was passed: "The World Federation of Rose Societies hereby proclaims the year 2002 as the YEAR OF THE ROSE, and joins rose societies, rose enterprises and rose enthusiasts from around the world as we honor the Queen of Flowers, Symbol of Love, Friendship, Beauty and Peace, and further, The World Federation of Rose Societies invites and encourages all member-societies of the Federation to participate in this year-long celebration of the world's favorite flower, the ROSE."
