A Journey Through Our Solar System By Mary Dennis

Launching into learning – The Essential Question AreWE the only planet in town?

The Milky Way Galaxy  Our planet is located in The Milky Way Galaxy  Nine planets make up this galaxy  The earth is just one of those planets  The earth has one Moon, which we have explored

Earth is considered the “Third Rock from the Sun” This is because we are the third planet from the sun, and our earth is rocky

Nine Planets In order from the sun, the planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto

The Inner Planets Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are:  Closer to the Sun  Warmer and rocky

The Outer Planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto are:  Farther from the Sun  Colder and made of gas  Pluto is a dwarf planet and not shown

You…An Astronaut ? You…An Astronaut ? Astronaut  Astronaut = “space sailor” in Latin  Years and years of schooling  Training: Johnson Center in Houston, Texas  Training: Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas

Space Gear Space Gear  Hubble space craft  Space probe  Telescope

“Spacey” words “Spacey” words  Constellation  Star  Axis  Rotate  Revolve /

 There’s a lot of “traffic” in space Fun Facts /

Comprehension Name our Galaxy? How many planets? One fact about inner planets? One fact about outer planets?
