CHINESE MASKS Jarod Pierce (JMP) and Bradly Huhn

Chinese masks and face paintings are a very old cultural thing the Chinese do. They shared it with other ethnic groups in China. Some people from ancient time believed that the masks could bring good luck.

Some masks were used to show expressions such as the mask above showing a dramatic feeling. These masks were only worn when playing a god, ghosts, and animals. But some operas were ok to use masks. Mostly popular ones like the Tibet, Sichuan, and the Gansu.

Shamanic Masks These masks are made for funerals and exorcising. These masks came from the Shamanic culture. Only a small amount of Shamanic masks still exist today.

Sorcerer's masks of Yunnan and Guizhou are masks worn by a group of people who welcome god as a fortune. They often prayed for this fortune to the gods. These masks were developed from totem worshiping.

I think that this is an interesting way of showing expressions and religions. You can also show your feelings in face paintings and they can make plays come to life. Bradly Huhn Jarod Pierce I think that this is an awesome topic to learn about. I also would like to learn more about Chinese masks and the different types of face paintings.

The time affected the way this was done by having to make a different way to paint and dig up your own clay to make masks. They were used for spiritual reasons in ancient times but are now used in plays and worn in parades.
