Outreach Step Up What us Stepping Up: John Izzo, Ph.D. Stepping up is taking initiative to make an organization/business better by bringing new ideas, suggesting better ways, and taking high effort. Step Up is act of seeing a need and deciding that you are the right person to do something about it. Step Up is about taking responsibility. Responsibility changes everything. When we focus on what we can change instead of what others must do, everything changes. People’s problem is that they blame/wait for others to do instead of trying to improve the situation themselves.

Outreach Step Up Internal people – People who does things Initiators External people - People who have things happened to them. Victims Victims see it as someone’s responsibility Initiators take initiative to solve problems People who say, “It is my job, some of it is my doing, I can be different, and I don’t accept things the way they are,” are simply happier and more successful than those who focus outside of themselves

Outreach Step Up Fixed mindset – People who have unchanging set of talents and gifts. Flexible mindset – People who believe that we can grow and learn new skills. Changing your brain by Stepping Up – Practice makes perfect. Every act we do, we will repeat it (Alvaro Pascual Leone of Harvard) Romans 12:2, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Outreach Step Up Four reasons why people don’t step up (325): a. I can’t change things. I am only one person – 46% b. It’s others’ responsibility to change things – 20% c. I am too busy – 18% d. Fear of looking bad if I try and nothing changes – 16% If not me, who? If not now, when? Create a culture for people to step up, always try to find new ways to improve never give up. How Hmong people step up?

Outreach Step Up Life gives us many opportunities, and those opportunities require us in one form or another to raise our hands and say, “ Count Me In.” What might you step up to do right now in your life if you knew you might regret not doing so later on? If we want people to step up, we need to make sure we praise them for their effort, not just the outcome.

Outreach Step Up How is your Church making Christ known to your community? How is your Church sharing the Gospel with people? How is your Church representing the Savior? How is your Church blessing people? How the LCMS Hmong Ministry is doing?

Hmong Christians belong to many denominations, but the largest number are members of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church More than 2/3 of Hmong in the U.S. continue to practice the traditional Animist Hmong Religion and Shamanism

Outreach Step Up God called Israel to represent Him and be blessings to the world, but they were unfaithful. Genesis 22:18; Isaiah Israel under King Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah 790– 686 B.C. a. Israel rebelled against God b. Israel was unfaith to God (Personal, religious, and social). God’s call to Isaiah. Isaiah 6:8, “Here Am I, Send Me.” a. To warning Israel of God’s judgment (Babylon Captivity) b. To bring Israel to repentance

Outreach Step Up Jesus called YOU to be His Disciple, Witness, Ambassador and Servant. God called us to represent Christ to the world. God called us to share the Gospel to the world. God called us to be blessings to the world. God called us to be light and salt to the world. How are we doing?

Outreach Step Up Mathais 28:18-20, “Go make disciples of all nations…” Mathais 9:37, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few…” Acts 1:8, “When you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends fo the earth.” 1 Peter 2:8-9 “Royal priesthood, holy nation, etc” 1 Peter 3:15 “Be prepare to share your hope…” Mathais 5:13-16, “You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world…”

Outreach Step Up Do you believe your Church (LCMS Hmong Ministry) can be different that you will step up and try? Why we should step up? Because of our LOVE for each other. Because of our LOVE for the Lord and for the Hmong people. Everything that has EVER been accomplished began with someone taking a single step. The time to step up is Right Now.
