 Service Learning is the act of helping others to benefit others as well as yourself. -the incorporation of community service within an educational system, esp. as a graduation requirement. Confused?

 Gain hands-on experience  Explore or cement your values and beliefs  Have opportunities to act on your values and beliefs  Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills  Grow your understanding of diverse cultures and communities  Learn more about social issues and their root causes Benefits

 Student-athletes of Valdosta State University contribute their time and efforts to build a home for a local family with the Valdosta-Lowndes Habitat for Humanity  2012 is the eighth annual Blazer Build. Blazer Build

 Habitat's vision: a world where everyone has a decent place to live.  A nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that has helped to build over 500,000 decent, affordable houses and served 2.5 million people worldwide.  Founded in 1976 by Millard Fuller and his wife, Linda Habitat for Humanity?

 I worked the first day of the project, which took place right after the house had been assembled.  During the Blazer Build we worked in the warehouse, organizing & preparing the material for the build.  We also did small task around the outer perimeter of the house, as well such as set up power tools so they could begin putting up the interior walls. The Happening!

 I was slightly disappointed in the service learning project because we didn’t physically work on the house  Working on the house is what I had in mind when I was first told about the project  I was also disappointed because we didn’t meet the family in whom we were building the house for. My Opinion (cons)

 The positives about the service learning project is that we were able to give back to the community.  We didn’t have to do the project individually. It was good that we could work as a program.  It gave VSU a good look on how the athletes are involved in the community My Opinion (pros)
