CyclingSA has to align themselves to the SASCOC constitution and this calls for some of the current provinces to amalgamate and for others to form provinces so that we are in line with the 9 provinces that SASCOC wants. We were given till the end of February to align ourselves and if we don ’ t make it happen SASCOC will put CyclingSA under administration and make it happen. The 9 provinces will represent different regions, Gauteng will be one province with 6 regions under it (depicted in the next slide). It is possible for the current 3 provinces to become one there are some challenges that will need to be addressed but it can be done.

Currently the 6 proposed regions fit well into the current 3 provinces. The 3 committees could continue in the interim and then look at selecting an EXCO to represent the different regions. There will be an umbrella body with will be the Gauteng Province and then regions will have their own committees under that body. Will the regions still be able to keep their emblems? This needs to be cleared with the regional sports council. The does not seem to be a reason why you will not be able to keep the emblem as there will still be regional champs and then there will be an overall Gauteng champ. Regions have to work independently under the Province. From next year riders will not be able to participate in Nationals if they have not participated in the provincial and regional champs and passed the selection criteria. It is important that youth riders develop on provincial and regional level. Long term benefit is that SASCOC structure will be supported at school level as it is their aim to get cycling recognised as a school sport.

Need to concentrate on holding Criteriums for the youth riders. This is not a mass participation sport so it might take some time to get the regional structures in place but need to have a representative from each region. Regions need to bring the sports to the people and get school kids interested in cycling to grow the sport. SASCOC is taking the realignment seriously and there is a clear realisation that it is not an overnight process. This will give structure where there is no structure and it will open up the communication lines. Need to get the province in place first and then work through the challenges one at a time. Need to put an interim committee in place for Gauteng Cycling Association to represent at National Convention.

 Committee structure  Multiple fee structures  Financial consolidation  Current administration structure  Race Calendars  Officials board & structure  Club structures and affiliation and membership  Race Organiser affiliation  Para Cycling

Clubs need to buy into this concept and there should be a document that defines the role of a club. Clubs should submit minutes of their AGM’s, they should host events, they should attend meetings (AGM’s or special meetings).
