Overview of Multiple Subject Credential Program Most programs are two semesters in length. Each semester includes coursework and student teaching. We also offer a three semester option in which student teaching takes place in the final semester.

Timeline Senior Year – First Semester Register to take the CSET/CBEST exams soon (passing scores on the CSU placement tests may be used in lieu of taking the CBEST exam). Stop by the Office of Student Services in (EBA 259) and pick up information about applying for a Certificate of Clearance. Work hard to complete your Liberal Studies requirements and maintain a strong GPA.

This is an intensive two year credential program for highly committed individuals interested in meeting the specific needs of the English language learners in California.

Student Admission Requirements California Basic Educational Test (CBEST) Subject Matter Competency ◦ CSET: Multiple Subjects (all three subtests) or CSET: Single Subject (Math, English, Social Studies or Social Science only) ◦ Admission to Internship Program may require applicants to pass CSET: Multiple Subject. ◦ For ECSE, completion of an academic major closely allied with Early Childhood: Child Development, Speech and Language, Social Work, Psychology or Liberal Studies. If major is not considered to be closely allied to Early Childhood, you may complete Early Childhood coursework before being accepted into the ECSE program (see ECSE Advisor for more information)

Assumption Program of Loans for Education (APLE) Is a state-funded competitive teacher incentive program administered by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) The program is designed to encourage outstanding students to become teachers and serve in critical teacher shortage area in CA public K-12 schools. Under APLE, CSAC may assume $11,000- $19,000 in outstanding college loans.

APLE Eligibility Criteria Have received or been approved to receive student loans (no parent loans) through the university Be enrolled in an undergraduate or credential program Have completed a minimum of 60 semester (90 quarter) undergraduate units Be enrolled at least half-time (6units) each semester Maintain satisfactory academic progress (2.5 GPA) Must apply prior to completing the coursework to obtain an initial teaching credential Assumption Benefits Participants must provide four consecutive years of full-time, or part-time equivalent, teaching services in the area agreed upon at an eligible CA K-12 school. ◦ $2,000 after the first year ◦ $3,000 after the second year ◦ $3,000 after the third year ◦ $3,000 after the fourth year CSAC will pay a bonus amount of $1,000 for each year of teaching service provided in math, science, and special education in a low- performing school. Lowest 60% of the API. CSAC will pay a bonus amount of $1,000 for each year of teaching service provided in math, science, and special education in a low- performing school. Lowest 20% of the API. For a maximum of $19,000.
