Chapter 5: Operations With Fractions Section 5-1: Comparing and Ordering Fractions

Multiples A multiple of a number is the product of that number and any nonzero whole number. Example: Multiples of 4: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, … Multiples of 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, … Common Multiples: The numbers 12, 24, and 36 are common multiples of 4 and 6. The common multiple of 12 is the least common multiple!!!

Multiples Today both the swim and wrestling teams have meets. The swim team has meets every 5 days. The wrestling team has meets every 6 days. When will both teams have meets on the same day again? Multiples of 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, … Multiples of 5: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, … The least common multiple(LCM) is 30!!!
