Community Engagement Team Training Module 1 - What is Thrivent Builds and what’s in it for you?

Welcome! Thrivent Builds programs provide you with several solutions you can use to help meet your personal, RFO and zone goals. There are three modules: 1.What is Thrivent Builds – and what’s in it for you: general program information and using Thrivent Builds for your “3 jobs to be done” 2.Building a business plan with Thrivent Builds: strategic data to inform your conversations with FRs and your zone partner 3.How to get things done: accountabilities and role descriptions for executing Thrivent Builds events You are here!

What is Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity An unprecedented partnership between Thrivent Financial and Habitat for Humanity, International which has made Thrivent HFHI’s largest nongovernmental sponsor Since 2006: –We have built or rehabbed over 3,500 homes both domestically and internationally –Homes have been built in 46 states and the District of Columbia –Thrivent Builds Worldwide teams have traveled to 33 countries –In the Thrivent Builds Homes program alone, over 4 million hours have been volunteered by over half a million volunteers Read about the total societal impact of the programs on this Fact Sheet.Fact Sheet

Thrivent Builds solutions you can integrate into zone business plans … 3 programs available 1.Thrivent Builds Homes –3-4 month long project with many opportunities to create events –Build a new home or rehab an existing home –Great community visibility to help RFOs/FRs build a personal brand 2.Thrivent Builds Repairs –1-2 day project, great prospecting event –Build a wheelchair ramp, paint a house, fix a porch, caulk a window –Great community visibility to help new FRs develop a natural market 3.Thrivent Builds Worldwide –1 – 2 week “life-changing” experience to international or domestic sites –Great way to deepen engagement of existing members and convert prospective members to members Review the Thrivent Builds Resources page. Thrivent Builds Resources page

Thrivent Builds Homes (TBH) TBH builds or rehabs homes across the country each year. Number of homes built is based on the “pull” from zones, capped by available budget The homes are funded in part by a 50% grant from Thrivent Builds –Additional fundraising opportunities are a part of the program Static application process –All applications are due at the same time –Grants are awarded for homes at one time Launch of the application process communicated in late spring or early summer for the following year’s homes Keep on top of application deadlines by staying in contact with your Senior Associate – Thrivent Builds Plus, TBH also impacts business results. Find out more in Module 2! Want a TBH project in one of your zones? Find out how to make that happen in Module 3!

Simple to plan and execute Number of projects each year based entirely on the “pull” from zones, capped by budget available Thrivent provides up to a flat $2,500 grant for each approved repair “Rolling” application process –Applications can be submitted throughout the year, projects must be completed by calendar year end –Projects are approved/denied as they are submitted First step in planning a project is holding strategic conversations with zone Partners and Habitat affiliates Are there new FRs that would benefit from TBR in your zones? Find out your next steps in Module 3! Thrivent Builds Repairs (TBR)

At a 1 – 2 week experience, the Worldwide program offers our most intense volunteer experience Price discounts offered to benefit members Program changes are communicated in the late summer or early fall for the coming year, or as they are known throughout the year Applications (Team Interest Forms) are accepted all year with the caveat that it takes about 4-6 months to plan a trip –Applications for the next year can be submitted in spring or early summer of the current year TBW Premier Destination trips offer the ease of preplanned itineraries and set budgets to reduce team leader effort Review the Lead a Trip page located on ThriventBuilds.comLead a Trip pageThriventBuilds.com 7 For internal use only Plus, going on a TBW trip impacts business results. Find out more in Module 2! Is one of your FRs interested in a TBW trip? Find out your next steps in Module 3! Thrivent Builds Worldwide (TBW)

And then there’s “FRAP” … What is FRAP? –A subprogram under the TB Worldwide program umbrella, FRAP stands for Financial Representatives Ambassador Program. FRs receive an all expense paid international service trip. Why do you need to know about FRAP? –Every year we ask the CET to nominate an FR from each RFO to participate in FRAP Why is this important to you? Because FRs who participate in FRAP return to their practices: –Rededicated to their careers at Thrivent –More knowledgeable about the benefits of including tax exempt programs in their business plans –More likely to stay at Thrivent Financial

But don’t just take our word for it: FRAP participants’ comments The trip increased my loyalty to Thrivent. I feel more connected and involved with Thrivent. I’m more energized and appreciative. This is the most proud I’ve been as an FR in my 10 years with Thrivent. As long as I’m in this career, I’ll be at Thrivent. I used to wonder if the grass on the other side of the fence was greener, but I’ll never stray now! This is an experience that truly changed my life, my perspective and my practice. I got to learn and hear other FRs’ ideas and to build relationships with FRs from across the country that otherwise I would never have gotten to know.

What’s in it for you? – The Critical Three jobs to be done Use Thrivent Builds projects as key pieces of your plan to fulfill your critical three jobs to be done.

Strategic Leadership to Lodge As you further strengthen your relationships with chapters and TMNs, think of these questions to ask: Is there an emerging or established affinity for volunteering with Habitat for Humanity? Offer Thrivent Builds Homes. Does the board of a Thrivent Member Network desire to create a volunteer event for prospective members? Consider a Thrivent Builds Repairs project. Does an FR team in a community you support want to create more community awareness and define how Thrivent Financial is different from other financial services companies? Suggest a Thrivent Builds Homes or Repairs project. Is there a need for team building within a community, chapter, TMN, or FR team? Plan a Thrivent Builds Worldwide team.

Develop integrated zone plans with Partner As you work with Partners and RFOs to develop a strategic plan for growing the zone(s), listen for these needs … all can be supported by involvement with Thrivent Builds! New FR development “If you’re looking for ways to get involved and find new members, Thrivent Builds Repairs is a great opportunity. The program will help you make connections within your natural market and key congregations. It’s easy to do with the support of the Community Engagement Team and truly shows how you and Thrivent are different from other companies.” — Knut Olson, SVP Financial Network Connect with prospective members "As a new FR, I can spend two years driving around meeting people and doing hours of cold calling, or I can show up on a Saturday and meet 30 – 40 people in one place. If you are a new FR, this is the best way to meet people.“ – Darrell Butler, FA Grow membership "I invite pre-retired guys to the local Thrivent Builds site. I would estimate I've acquired new member families from meeting people at builds by working through the Thrivent Financial Advisory Process with them.“ -- Marc Spiridigliozzi, Partner

Develop integrated zone plans (continued) Access to key congregations –Desire to establish a missions program “The senior pastor at my church was not previously a Thrivent member and had been cool at best and not very interested in my attempts to develop a better relationship with my congregation. Now, the pastor is excited to join me on the Thrivent Builds Worldwide trip and I'm working with another mission team member on an 18,000 ABC case from our congregation.“ – Rita Keegan, FA –Need for a “door opening” event “I believe that speaking about Thrivent Builds and displaying my values in front of my congregations builds my reputation and the confidence people have in me. It softens the prospecting process when I send letters or approach them to offer my services.” – Dan Dickhudt, FC More FR Success Stories on the Thrivent Builds section of FieldNetThrivent Builds section of FieldNet

Grow awareness and connection to Thrivent within zone Thrivent Builds Repairs Thrivent Builds Homes Thrivent Builds Worldwide Thrivent Builds Annual Results On track to deliver around 25,000 prospective member touches annually
