According to the U.S. copyright law, fair use is the doctrine that state excerpts of copyrighted material under certain circumstances can be quoted verbatim for purposes such as criticism, news reporting, teaching, and research, without the need for permission or payment to the copyright holder.

If you don’t personally create what you are working with, go ahead and assume that it is copyrighted. If your use of the work will result in profit or personal gain, you should always get permission to use it first. If the work is not being recreated or used outside a school class, you are typically safe but it is always best to have the original resource cited and available.

Copyright Infringement is a violation of an individual or organization's copyright. It describes the unauthorized use of copyrighted material, such as text, photos, videos, music, software, and other original content.

 You can receive a notice for downloading or for allowing others to upload content from your computer.  If you receive a notice for inappropriate activity on the campus network, your network access will be temporarily disabled and you will be required to complete specific actions before access is reinstated.  Repeat offenders will be referred to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities for further disciplinary action.
