COPYRIGHT OR HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM OH BOY!!!

WHAT IS COPYRIGHT? THE EXCLUSIVE LEGAL RIGHT, GIVEN TO AN ORIGINATOR OR AN ASSIGNEE TO PRINT, PUBLISH, PERFORM, FILM, OR RECORD LITERARY, ARTISTIC, OR MUSICAL MATERIAL, AND TO AUTHORIZE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME. THIS MEANS THAT IF SOMETHING IS COPYRIGHTED IT IS PROTECTED BY LAW, AND YOU CAN ONLY USE IT WITH PERMISSION FROM THE PERSON WHO MADE IT. BUT THERE ARE ALWAYS EXCEPTIONS TO THE RULE……

FAIR USE COPYRIGHT LAWS: FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES THERE ARE CONDITIONS THAT ALLOW LIMITED USE OF COPYRIGHTED WORKS: WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE USE? WHAT IS THE NATURE OF THE COPYRIGHTED WORK? HOW MUCH OF THE WORK WILL BE USED? WHAT IS THE MARKET EFFECT ON THE ORIGINAL WORK FOR THE USE? UNDER THE FAIR USE LAW TEACHERS AND STUDENTS ARE MORE PROTECTED WHEN USING COPYRIGHTED WORKS FOR CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS, LESSONS OR PROJECTS. The guidelines for including work that is done by other people in your own presentation, report, or movie:

PLAIGARISM: THE PRACTICE OF TAKING SOMEONE ELSE’S WORK OR IDEAS AND PASSING THEM OFF AS ONE’S OWN. EVEN THOUGH YOU CAN USE COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL UNDER THE FAIR USE LAW, YOU STILL HAVE TO CITE YOUR SOURCES!

IT’S ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY, SO THERE ARE PLACES TO LOOK FOR IMAGES AND VIDEOS THAT ARE NOT COPYRIGHTED. START WITH THESE AND ONLY USE COPYRIGHTED MATERIALS IF YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN’T FIND ANYTHING ELSE! AND NEVER USE ANYTHING WITH A WATERMARK!

GOOGLE IMAGES:

Teacher Tube:

BRITANNICA ON THE DESTINY PAGE: The Bremerton School District purchased the rights for this data base so the images are ours to use for free!

BIBME OR EASYBIB?? USE BIBME IF YOU ALREADY HAVE AN ACCOUNT. USE EASYBIB IF YOU DON’T HAVE AN ACCOUNT WITH BIBME.

Be aware and a lawful user of images and videos for your presentations! And always cite your sources!
