Parental Expectations HSSC

Thank-you Thanks for choosing to put your young child into speed swimming, for those parents that have to drive in the mornings, not quite sure how you guys manage to do that. Even if your swimmer doesn’t thank-you now they will the first time they have to drive someone in the morning and then go back to sleep. Parents put so much time in driving, preparing and watching. I am just saying thank-you for all your hard work.

Training During training please refrain from speaking to your child and coaches. Feel free to watch. Have your swimmer there on time. If something happens that you will make you late, don’t fret, their won’t be any consequences to your swimmer like other teams. If you can only come to a portion of practice still come, or if you cannot come to a certain time on a consistent basis, we will try to be flexible about moving your swimmer to another group at another time.

Training With all the this time spent training, it makes swimmers really tired. This tends to effect them in other areas of their lives. As a coaching staff we understand that school and family are number one and two priorities. If a swimmer is having trouble in school let us help. 3 of us are in university, and I feel very comfortable in all High School subjects, including Math and Science.

Meets Bring your swimmer with racing suits, goggles, team cap, towels, change of deck clothes (they always get wet), food, water, coffee (concession stands are never open when warm-ups start), something to read (swim meets are long and boring), a pillow to sit on (my dad always said swim meets are tougher on parents because the bleachers are so uncomfortable).

Meets Racing can be very stressful for your swimmer, they spend so much of their time working extremely hard to go fast on one day of the year. Be supportive. Be calm, swimmers will feed off your emotions. Respect the coach at this point, if the coach wants the swimmer to swim the race a certain way support the coach.

Meets Post race - sometimes swimmers don’t do as well as they want, whether it be too high of expectations, sick, tired, new training, not a taper meet. Things happen. Help us get the swimmer back into a good mind frame quickly so they can have a good next race. Although never pressure the swimmer, swimmers generally swim a lot faster when they are relaxed.

Contact Information Feel free to about any questions you have about training styles, missed practices, up coming events, or really anything. I answer my s fairly quickly within a couple of hours. Kiely and Myself are going to make ourselves available on Monday Night from roughly 7-8 pm. Like open office hours. If this doesn’t work again just and we can arrange a time that works better. I have a cell in case of emergencies. Please use this sparingly
