Mercy Health System) –Gov’t. (ALCOSAN, Allegheny County Health Dept., Armstrong County, City of Pittsburgh, Green Tree Borough, PA DEP)

November 21, Stutts SW PA HHW Task Force  Mission –Facilitate the proper collection and disposal of HHW and minimize its generation through education in SW PA.  Manageable tasks –Oversight –Funding –Location/disposal –Education and outreach  And sufficient volunteers to make progress

November 21, Stutts Critical Success Factors  Catalysts need to exist –An event or events that provides the motivation –Individuals who have the energy and desire  Creation of a “win-win” situation  Active participation on both sides  Critical mass of participants to achieve the goal  Progress in a relatively short time period  Some mechanism for sustainability –Funding, people, PR, etc.

November 21, Stutts Looking for That “Win-Win” Situation  Many companies look for opportunities to do good things  Individuals within companies may have a particular motivation to contribute  With increased competition for tax and charitable dollars and less staff to push activities, both sides need to see the return on their investment  Networks are important (you can’t get much done alone)  Even if a win-win situation doesn’t jump out, keep a dialogue going
