Information on specific companies: OneSource & Capital IQ OneSource – A great source for company and industry research and analysis – Data on public and private companies; provides competitor information – Searches can be customized; ability to screen by different criteria – Please note: special registration required to download data – Global coverage Capital IQ – A great source for company information – Individual accounts have been set up for you by library staff – Available to MBA candidates during the academic year –Data on public and private companies, people and transactions – Strong focus on finance, deals and rankings –Global coverage

Information on specific companies: OneSource Example: Use OneSource to create a company report that compares three of Biogen Idec’s competitors.OneSource –Type Biogen Idec into the “Companies” search box –Choose the first company on the list (based in Cambridge MA) –On the left side of the screen, select “Competitors Report” –Select three companies from the list of competitors –Select “Run Report” –Check the blank box next to the “Company” heading and select the “Company Report” tab –Select any of the links on the left hand side for more information on each company

Overviews of Industry: S&P NetAdvantage S & P NetAdvantage –Global coverage –Detailed descriptions of companies and industries –Includes Standard and Poor’s Industry Surveys –Specific tab “How to analyze this industry” –Covers industry trends, forecasts, major players and market share data, key ratios, and statistics –Most surveys include “Comparative Company Analysis” (in MS Excel format. To view these reports make sure that pop-up blockers are disabled.) –Bi-monthly “Industry in Focus” reports

Overviews of Industry: S&P NetAdvantage Example: Use S&P NetAdvantage to find the most recent biotechnology industry report. –Go to –Click on the “Industries” tab –At the “Industry” prompt, select “Biotechnology” from the drop-down menu –Click the orange arrow to run your search –Choose the most recent report (system should default to the most recent report) –Within the report there is a link “How to Analyze a Biotechnology Company” –For more in-depth information on the biotechnology sector, click on the “Industry References” link which provides access to documents that were used to prepare the report.

Institutional Investor Institutional Investor All America (All Europe, All Japan) Research Team surveys list top analysts by sector – In the upper left under "Publications" select the U.S. or International edition. – Scroll down and on the left side click "Rankings Archives". – From the pull-down menu next to "View another ranking" select "All- America Research Team".

Networking Resources Capital IQ –“Company Intelligence” tab includes a “Relationship Paths” feature that allows you to determine the shortest path between you and the person you are researching Harvard Alumni Navigator –MBA students have access to 40,000+ alumni who have agreed to be Alumni Advisors –Search by HBS Information (degree, alumni advisor, status), Company Information (company name, location, industry) and Personal Information (college, gender, home country) BoardEx –Database of companies and board members in the United States and 19 European countries.

Networking Resources MBA Career Services –Publishes a webpage specific to networking –Includes tips and tricks on building networking skills, networking with alumni and faculty, as well as links to networking resources CareerSearch –Provides information on over 3.5 million public and private companies in the U.S. and more than 600,000 international firms to aid in finding job leads –Allows deep screening by specific industry sector, geographic location, and size LinkedIn –Professional social networking site; allows for searching by group (luxury, entrepreneur, etc)

Job Postings MBA Career Services / / –Publishes a webpage specific to researching job opportunities, which includes job posting resources –Includes links to the MBA Job Bank and the Alumni Job Bank Career Research Guide –Includes a section specific to job posting resources –Postings organized by Executive/ MBA jobs, Industry-specific jobs, international jobs and general job resources. Bloomberg available in the Baker Library | Bloomberg Center –Bloomberg Career Center allows you to search for jobs internal to Bloomberg as well as within 10 different industries (including accounting, banking, consulting and finance)
