 Choose Your Path (Draft) Pathways to College and Career Readiness- Workshop 5

Our Objectives  To discuss your Job Shadow experience was.  To discuss what’s next as you prepare for the summer before your college/career journey begins in earnest.  To create a plan and To-Do list for the items that you need to accomplish between now and the start of your Sr. year.

The Job Shadow Experience- What Did You Learn?  Was your Job Shadow Day what you expected?  What did you like?  What didn’t you like?  What would you do differently?

What’s Next?  Internship?  Summer Job?  Volunteer Work?  College/Career Visits  Something Else….

Start Making Plans- The Clock Is Ticking!  When was the last time you looked at your planning calendar? What do you need to do before your Sr. year starts?  Are you planning to visit Colleges or Career Schools over the summer?  Are you going to have a summer job, internship or volunteer for Service Learning?  Do you know what scholarships you plan to apply for?  Do you have everything you need to apply for Colleges, a Career or Scholarships?

Up Date Your To-Do List and Calendar  If you have items that you need to accomplish over the summer then you should have a plan.  Write down all the things that you might need to plan into your summer to be ready for your College or career goals  Do you need references? Who will provide them?  Have you taken all of the required exams needed for your chosen path?  Have you gotten the volunteer or work experiences that you need?  Do you need to work with a tutor over the summer to be ready for your Sr. Year?  Do you need to go to Summer School for credit recovery?

Interns- What Employers Want  dependable and responsible  possessing a positive attitude  adaptability  honesty and integrity  self-motivated  willing to grow and learn  strong self-confidence  professionalism  loyalty

The Interview- What Do You Do and Say? Exercise  Your best friend tells you that he has an interview for a summer job tomorrow, but they haven’t been through any of the Career Readiness Workshops that you have been through.  Advise your friend on what to wear.  Advise your friend on what to do and say to get the job.

What’s Next?  How does your Summer activity affect your college/career goals?

Homework  Update your calendar or To-Do list with the details of what you need to do between now and the beginning of your Sr. year.  Turn in your plan by next Friday.
