Local Roles in ADT Development Process Discipline Faculty: Develop an ADT in a discipline aligned with TMC; and select the best options from TMC. Curriculum Committee: Facilitates the local approval process through Board of Trustees. Articulation Officer: Assess current curriculum and TMC Templates against C-ID Descriptors, submits and monitors courses through the C-ID review process and secure applicable ASSIST reports. Counselors: Provide input on major and GE unit requirements and facilitate communication of new degree requirements and benefits to students. Administrators: Ensure compliance with California Ed Code and Program and Course Approval Handbook (PCAH) 5th Edition – Appendix B; oversee submission of proposal to CCC Chancellor’s Office. 11

New Program Proposals General Overview All ADT proposals require CCC Chancellor’s Office approval prior to implementation. All ADT proposals require a Narrative, TMC Template, applicable ASSIST reports and applicable CTE documentation. Refer to Program and Course Approval Handbook (PCAH), 5th Edition – Appendix B for specific instructions on application fields, completing narrative, and including appropriate supporting documentation. Discipline faculty should consult with Counselors or Articulation Officer regarding the transfer and articulation of degree major courses and consider local CSU’s major course requirements when selecting their courses in the optional categories. 13

Proposal Fields 14

Proposal Fields (cont.) 15

Development Criteria Narrative Title Associate in Arts in (TMC Discipline) for Transfer Degree Associate in Science in (TMC Discipline) for Transfer Degree Example: Associate in Arts in Psychology for Transfer Degree Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer Degree 16

Development Criteria Narrative Item 1. Statement of Program Goals and Objectives Stipulates the primary focus of the law: to assist students in seamlessly transferring to a CSU to complete a baccalaureate degree in a specific TMC discipline or similar major. May include the program level Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs). If the ADT program goal selected is “Career Technical Education (CTE) and Transfer” – include the specific entry-level occupation(s) or field(s) the program will prepare students to enter and the basic occupational competencies students will acquire. 17

Development Criteria Narrative Item 2. Catalog Description An overview of the knowledge and skills students will demonstrate upon completion. Includes Associate Degree for Transfer requirements pursuant to Education Code: – Completion of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University. – The Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education – Breadth Requirements. – A minimum of 18 semester units or 27 quarter units in a major or area of emphasis, as determined by the community college district. – Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0.” – A grade of “C” or better in all courses required for the major or area of emphasis. If the ADT program goal selected is “Career Technical Education (CTE) and Transfer” list the potential entry-level careers students may enter upon completion. 18

Development Criteria Narrative Item 3. Program Requirements Optional– Some colleges include a response as it allows the Chancellor’s Office reviewers to recognize the requirements/restrictions not easily discernible on the TMC Templates. EXAMPLE Anthropology TMC: To assist their students in being better prepared for transfer, some colleges have elected to include the Statistics course as part of the Required Core when it is listed as an option in List A. 19

TMC Template CCCCO Academic Affairs Division staff develops the Transfer Model Curriculum (TMC) Templates from the Transfer Model Curriculum. TMC Templates are posted on CCCCO Academic Affairs Division website at dInstructionUnit/TransferModelCurriculum.aspx dInstructionUnit/TransferModelCurriculum.aspx New and revised TMC Templates are released twice per year, Feb 1 st and September 1 st. Effective July 1, 2015: All courses that have an approved C-ID Descriptor indicated on the template must be approved by C-ID prior to proposal submission. Proposals submitted before June 30, 2015 still need to have an acceptable C-ID status (i.e., Submitted/Resubmitted, Approved, Conditional, In Progress).* *Vice Chancellor Walker’s memo to CIOs dated January 28,

TMC Template Enter the college name in the space provided at the top of the course grid. Align the C-ID Descriptor with the Course ID, Course Title, Course Units and CSU-GE/IGETC Area Code for each course entered on the TMC template. No ASSIST report is required to validate courses entered where a C-ID Descriptor is indicated. Ensure all courses entered on TMC Template are included in Course Report and the Course Outline of Records are attached. nUnit/TransferModelCurriculum.aspx nUnit/TransferModelCurriculum.aspx 23

ASSIST Reports The required ASSIST report (AAM, BCT or GECC) is indicated on the TMC template in the C-ID Descriptor column. No substitute documentation is accepted for ASSIST reports. No other ASSIST report is accepted. ASSIST Reports 2.Transfer courses – CSU Baccalaureate Level Course List by Department (BCT) 26

ASSIST Reports 3.General Education (GE) courses – CSU GE Certification Course List by Area or Department (GECC) 27

28 Double-Counting

California Code of Regulations, title5, § Minimum Requirements for the Associate Degree. (c) While a course might satisfy more than one general education requirement, it may not be counted more than once for these purposes. A course may be used to satisfy both a general education requirement and a major or area of emphasis requirement. Whether it may be counted again for a different degree requirement is a matter for each college to determine. A hyperlink to the GE Requirements is available in the Curriculum Inventory by following this path: – Click on ‘Admin’ tab, Click on ‘Resources,’ under ‘Documents (PDF Downloads)’ Click on ‘General Education Requirements (ASSIST.org).’ 29

Double-Counting Must account for the ASSIST minimum number of units that may be double-counted for each GE (IGETC or CSU-GE) area, not the course unit value assigned by the college. *Note: CSU allows the maximum number of units for each GE area and the other units to be counted towards transferable electives up until the transferable unit cap is reached. Exception: CSU GE Area B3, 1 unit will be assigned if there is a lab in B1 or B2 and if the total for Area B comes to 10 it will be allowed by CCCCO. Courses can only be double counted in one GE Area. The Biology & Chemistry TMCs require the completion of the CSU- GE Breadth or IGETC for STEM GE pattern (33 units CSU-GE, 31 units IGETC). 30
