Making a Study Unit Presenter Joshua Chacko

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs Starting the Study Unit Pick a topic. I am using the Starfish as an illustration. Make sure you have all the Word templates. Pictures – su picture.dot Name Sheet – su name.dot Definitions – su info.dot Coloring Sheet – su color.dot Booklet – su book.dot Title – su title.dot

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs Preparing and Making Pictures Find the graphics (and definitions) EnchantedLearning.com is a good source for graphics and definitions Clean up the graphics Take out the lines and/or the answers Use any Paint program Make a picture for each feature. Highlight the feature. Save it in.gif format with an appropriate name. (Example: starfish central disk.gif)

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs Putting Pictures in Template Copy each picture and put it in the left column. Label the picture. Copy the same picture and put it in the right column One page of the pictures should look like this.

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs The Labels -- Name.doc Open the su_name.dot template. Put the names of the parts of the starfish in the first column. Use the same order that you used in the picture document. This is the font to use. Comic Sans MS, 16 point Bold

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs Starfish name.doc Make the second and third columns identical to the first. This is how the finished starfish name.doc looks. Save the document as “starfish name.doc”

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs The Definitions -- info1.doc Open the su_info.dot template. Enter the definitions in the same order as the starfish name.doc. Leave the name of the part of the starfish in the definition. Reword each definition as you enter it. Be sure each definition makes sense. Avoid plagiarism!

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs Completed Info1.doc Save the document as “starfish info1.doc.” This is one page of my “starfish info1.doc.”

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs Make Info2.doc Open starfish info1.doc. Save the document as starfish info2.doc. Take the part name out of the definition and reword it if necessary. This is a page of my finished starfish info2.doc.

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs Coloring Page Open the su color.dot template. Put a blank picture in each section. I saved the file as “starfish.doc.”

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs Starfish Book Open the su book.dot template. Count the number of pictures you have. Make that number pages in your book. Put the name of one characteristic in the title line of each page. Put a blank picture on each page. Save the file as starfish book.doc.

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs Finished Page of Starfish Book This is how a finished page of starfish book.doc looks. If people want to save printer ink and paper, they can make a book using notebook paper, by pasting one of the pictures from the coloring page at the top of each page.

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs The Title Page Open the su title.doc template. Type “The Starfish” near the top of the page. Put a picture of a starfish on the page. Save the file as “starfish title.doc.” This is how my finished title page looks.

Copyright (c) 2005 Senari Programs My Opinion I think the definitions are the hardest part of the study unit. I used Windows Paint on this study unit. Paint Shop Pro is an excellent program. You can get a free 30 day evaluation copy on the internet. I am 11 years old and it took me 2 days to complete this study unit.
