Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Controls n ON/OFF Switch: –Use this to turn device on and off –If the device goes to sleep, you must turn it off and then on again –When not in use store in the “off” position n Contrast Dial: –Adjusts the contrast of the LCD screen –If the screen can not be read when the device is on, try the contrast dial to see if it changes the appearance.

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Controls n DC IN: –Plug in charger to recharge the unit. (Try to recharge overnight twice a week depending on the usage) –Use only the adapter that came with the PC6 (Class 2 Power Supply) –If unit does not hold a charge, contact Assistive Technology, In the interim, remove the rechargeable battery from the back of the PC6 and replace with 4 AA batteries.

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Main Menu n Word Processor: –Press ‘A’ to access the word processor. –A file information screen will appear then disappear. –The ‘Select Mode’ screen will appear with four choices:
Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Main Menu n Select Mode: C - Creates a new document –When C is selected you will get a prompt to enter the document name. –Enter a file name and push the ‘Enter” key. –A blank document screen will appear. –Begin typing. –Text is automatically saved as it is entered. –When finished press ‘ESC’ to go back to ‘Select Mode’.
Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Main Menu n Select Mode: E - Allows student to edit a document –Once ‘E’ is selected, the student will be prompted to select the document to edit. –Selections are made by using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard. –Once the document name is displayed press the ‘Enter’ key on the keyboard. –Edit the document then press ‘ESC’ to return to the previous menu. Changes to the document are automatically saved.
Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Main Menu n Select Mode: D - Allows student to delete a document –Once ‘D’ is selected, the student will be prompted to select the document to delete. –Selections are made by using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard. –Once the document name is displayed press the ‘Enter’ key on the keyboard. –A screen appears ‘ARE YOU SURE (Y/N)?’ –Press the ‘Y’ key to delete the document.
Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Main Menu n Select Mode: P - Allows student to print a document. –When using the printer cable attached to the PC6 and the printer (disconnect the computer to attach the PC6 cable). –Once ‘P’ is selected, the student will be prompted to select the document to print. –Selections are made by using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard. –Once the document name is displayed press the ‘Enter’ key on the keyboard. –The document will print.

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Infrared Printing n Connecting the Infrared cable: –Turn off the computer. –Remove the keyboard cable from the back of the computer. –Plug the keyboard cable into the ‘Y’ end of the PC6 IR receiver. –Plug the available end of the ‘Y’ cable into the computer’s keyboard port. –Place the IR receiver in any position that allows an unobstructed view (next to the bottom or on top of the monitor) –You can now turn the computer back on.

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Infrared Printing n Using the Infrared cable attached to a computer. –Align the infrared pod receiver with the infrared component on the top of the PC6 approximately 3 to 5 feet apart. –While stabilizing the PC6, press the ‘IR Send’ key on the keyboard. –The document will appear on the computer screen. Print as a Word document through the computer.

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Main Menu n Spelling Checker: –Press ‘B’ to access the Spelling Checker. –This Spell Checker is to check spelling for one word. This will not check the spelling in an entire document. –Once selected type in a word and it will check the spelling.

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Main Menu n Configuration in Utilities: –Printer Selection #5 - to select the printer (directions are on the back of the PC6). Use the up and down arrow keys to see the printer choices. Once the correct printer is chosen press ‘Enter’. If one printer selection does not work, try another.

Use the up and down arrows on the keyboard to go between choices. 10 minutes is the recommended number of minutes before the device goes to sleep.

Press ‘Enter’ then type the activity for that day. Press ‘ESC’’ to go back to the entire calendar. The dates with an entry will be bold. Use the arrow keys to select a day and press ‘Enter’ to view that activity.

Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. 04/04/05 PC6 - Additional Information n Storage Store the adapter in the inside pocket of the PC6 case and place the screen side of the PC6 away from the adapter. The adapter can scratch or break the screen when it comes in contact with the adapter.
