Agenda Welcome Updates Reminders

Welcome

Updates Name Change Enterprise Graphic Change Web Consulting Bid Google Translate Google Search Appliance Google Analytics WCMS Standard Selection Process Other Web Standards

Name Change We are no longer DOIT (Department of Information Technology) Now, we are DAS-BEST (Department of Administrative Services, Bureau of Enterprise Systems and Technology)

Enterprise Graphic Changes As you noticed, we changed all the center graphics of the sites for Hurricane Irene per the Governor’s Office We have set up a standard location in the V4 template in the left or right navigation for small graphics to be added on every site We’ll only make these types of automatic additions to sites if they are approved by the Governor’s Office

Enterprise Graphic Changes

Web Consulting Bid DOIT’s Web Development, Design, and Hosting Contract which is used for any external development expired August 31, itz0057.pdf 08itz0057.pdf Bid went out and is closing September 15, 2011 All existing PO’s under the original contract are valid Any new PO’s will need to wait for new contract in October

Google Translate DRS and CID have put Google Translate on their sites PMG is not supporting it until we have time to properly test it If approved, PMG is also trying to get an enterprise level disclaimer that all the agencies can use PMG will work with Governor’s Office on a standard location in the template for the translator

Google Search Appliance Google Search Appliance (GSA) has been installed and crawling all sites hosted at BEST Sites using GSA – 4 All new V4 Template sites will automatically be using Google Search Agencies already on the V4 Template will be contacted by PMG prior to change over Setup same as USA Search (Header/Footer)

Google Search Appliance We are researching if it can be integrated into DSF. We will keep you updated on the progress to change over to Google Search

WebTrends As mentioned before, WebTrends is no longer a supported method of getting web statistics Historical data is retained and good through at least July 2010 No professional support for the product

GA – New Interface Google introduced a new interface for their service Reports are still there, but organized differently Look and feel is different

GA – New Code Site Speed – Google Analytics has a new report Required an additional line of code to track this value This change has been added to all Portal sites If you want this tracked on your non-Portal sites, we can send you that code

GA – More New Code Google Analytics changed their entire code format Colloquially called “Async” Tracks websites better by: More browser support for asynchronous JavaScript GA code can be moved higher on the page (loads faster) New code is more flexible for customizations Current code still works Testing is underway

WCMS Standard Selection The process to select a standard for a Web Content Management System began earlier this year as part of the Enterprise Architecture Standards Process (EASP) Please Note: There is no funding at this time so we are only selecting a standard

WCMS Standard Selection A Request for Information (RFI) was released March 30, 2011 We received responses from by ten vendors The work group reviewed the responses and brought in six vendors in for demonstrations The work group asked for more information from four vendors The work group expects to narrow it down to two vendors and then perform a proof of concept

Other Web Standards Other standards being added: Google Search Appliance Google Analytics If you need a 3 rd party tool and there is currently no standard available, contact

Reminders Using Relative links, not full path or staged version Removing Permissions from users that have left your agency DSF Basic Training DSF Issues

Page Links It is important to make sure all Content Admins are NOT using full links to when linking within the same site They should be using PAGE LINKS

Page Links Consolidating Agencies are now running into issues because once content is consolidated, they have to manually change all their links to these pages ONLY using Page Links prevents this from happening

Other Linking Reminders When linking to an external site, have it open it in a new window Do not link pages to staged version (PM=1) Do not use the underline if it is not a link

Who Has Access to your Site? Periodic checks should be made to see who has access to your site Most Portal sites are accessible from home Are people who are no longer responsible for the website still able to admin it? Employees who are: Retired Promoted Transferred Moved on

Who Has Access to your Site? You can find out Create a new eAlert Select a role (ex. System Admin) “Send a test message…” Enter YOUR address A list of all people on your site with the System Admin role will be ed to you

Who Has Access to your Site?

DSF Basic Training PMG is now performing basic DSF training for new users We are scheduling one class a month using DOIT’s Computer Training Room The classes are geared for new users or those that haven’t used the system in a long time and need a refresher If you have Content Admins who need this training, please submit a work request

DSF Basic Training If you or your staff need advanced training (beyond the class offered), submit a Work Request, and we will schedule this on an as needed basis Please note that our availability for these advanced training sessions may be limited due to other projects and deadlines

DSF Issues WebFile Manager Issue Java Version 6 Update 21 Cimbrian provided Editor fix for IE7 & IE9 IE9 requires Windows 7 OS Still IE 8 issues with new Editor Updating content from code side eAlerts – recent issues Make sure you are signed up to receive alerts so you can confirm receipt of Contact the help desk if it is not received in 30 minutes
