Bones and Joints

Learning outcomes Identify the structure of long bones – explaining the difference between compact and cancellous bones. Identify 3 different types of joint Examine the structure of 6 types of ‘synovial’ joint, identifying key components and explaining their role.

Independent task... The structure of a bone – identify key components such as: Epiphysis, Diaphysis, cancellous bone, compact bone, articular surface, yellow and red bone marrow. Any term used on your diagram needs to have a definition! Identify the 3 different types of joint, and provide a diagram for each type Fixed joints Cartilaginous joints Synovial joints Any term needs to have a definition Explain in detail the 6 types of synovial joint: Saddle, Gliding, Ball and Socket, Pivot, Hinge, Ellipsoid Provide a diagram and identify the range of movement possible at each.

You are the teacher... Use your presentation to teach a friend about the 6 types of ‘synovial joint’.
