Presentation transcript:

Global ’ s Environmental Sustainability Initiatives  Conform to Standards  ISO 14001:2004  EcoLogo Certification  Greenguard

ISO  A Series of International Standards on Environmental Management The implementation and compliance are audited by a third party (CGSB)

ISO Environmental Management System Reduce Material Waste-Sort and Divert – We diverted 87% Reduce Energy Use Reduce Manufacturing Errors Use Environmentally Friendly Materials (Glues, Cleaners) Pollution Prevention Use Materials with Recycled Content (Particle Board, Corrugated) Convert to Waterless Printing Process Reduce waste: office paper, toner cartridges

ISO Environmental Management System Reduce Material Waste-Sort and Divert – We diverted 87%

ISO Environmental Management System Recycle In 2006, we reprocessed: 3.8 million pounds of post consumer polyprop 2.1 million pounds of wood waste And produced 5.96 pounds of molded products: Interior seats and backs Panel Cores

ISO Environmental Management System Recycle In 2006, we used material that was reprocessed: 200,000 yards of panel fabric made from 100% recycled polyester 650,000 lbs of panel insulation made from a byproduct waste material from steel mills The most important raw material used in our panel is aluminum, which is the most most recycled raw material available

ISO Environmental Management System Panel Cores

ISO Environmental Management System Additional Environmental Initiatives Replaced all factory lighting with new T8 lighting at a cost of $200,000. Payback months Energy reduction 60%. Increase in illumination 50%

ISO Environmental Management System Additional Environmental Initiatives Reduced Natural Gas Consumption by 12% by changing the chemical used to clean the aluminum prior to painting Reduced electrical Consumption by 25%-new lighting Waste reduction: Savings $100,000 per year Before 870 Metric tons of waste to landfill per year Now: 100 metric tons of waste to landfill per year

EcoLogo Environmentally Preferred Products  North America ’ s Most Widely Recognized and Respected Multi- Attribute Environmental Certification Mark  Helps Buyers Find Sustainable Products from environmentally conscious factories

EcoLogo Certification Criteria Product end of Use Recycling Information VOC Emission Restrictions Use of Coating to Restrict Off Gassing Content Stamping of Plastics Improved Energy Efficiency Reduce Noise Pollution in Manufacturing

LEED and Greenguard  Created By USA Green Building Council and Adapted for Canada  A Rating System to Evaluate Green Buildings

LEED Defines “ GREEN ” Design and Construction Practices that Significantly Reduce the Negative Impact of Buildings on the Environment and the Occupants Global products are listed on the Greenguard web site

Greenguard Boulevard Product Line  This product has been GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified ® by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute under the GREENGUARD Standard for Low Emitting Products.  Certification Details:  Certification No:  F10Fw Certification Status:  CertifiedCertification Period(s):  09/ /2007

Greenguard Greenguard certification: AQS conducts a 96-hour test, during which products are placed in a sealed chamber through which purified air is poured. The resulting exhaust is then tested for formaldehyde, volatile organic chemicals, respirable particles, ozone, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, and carbon dioxide emissions. Also measured are how much a product emits at a certain point in time, how the emissions change over time, and how the test results translate into a real building environment.

Greenguard  GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certified Products meet the following minimum emission requirements:  Individual VOCs < 0.1 TLV  Formaldehyde < 0.05 ppm (< 0.06 mg/m ³ )  Total VOCs < 0.5 mg/m ³  Total aldehydes < 0.1 ppm
