Welcome Grade Three Parents to Curriculum Night! Grade 3 Teachers Mrs. Carvalho Ms. Carney Mrs. Jarosz Mrs. Kus (Magda)

Prayer Jesus, as parents and teachers of the children in our care we ask that you flood our souls with your mind, your heart, your attitudes, that in every thought we think, every word we speak, every action we perform, every decision and opinion of ours, we do God’s will as you would do it – loving God, with our whole heart; and loving our neighbours as ourselves. AMEN

Religion and Family Life In The Spirit We Belong A focus on the Holy Spirit, and gathering together Focus on Faith: Who is the Holy Spirit? Fully Alive: a focus on developing relationships

The Daily Five- A Balanced Approach to Literacy Read to Self Read to Someone Listen to Reading Work on Writing Word Work Reading and writing workshop with guided literacy. Students create goals and work towards achieving them Tracking sheet used to record and track goals

Read to Self, Read to Someone & Listen to Reading Develops and fosters an interest and love for reading Introduces and motivates students to read a variety of materials Builds fluency Allows students to find ‘just right books’ Allows students to discuss books Builds confidence in students as readers The More We Read The Better We Read

Allows students to see reading from the writer’s point of view Work on Writing Teaches students a variety of text forms, genres, and writing strategies Helps students become effective communicators of written language (i.e. better readers and writers) Allows students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of phonics, spelling, and decoding Allows students to see reading from the writer’s point of view In helping students to tune their ears—and mouths and eyes, even their fingertips, their nerve endings—to the glorious range of ways they can string words together, we need to encourage them to fool around, to experiment, to break rules, even before they know all the rules. Who ever knows all the rules, anyway? ~Judith Rowe Michaels

Experimenting with words for learning and practicing spelling Word Work Experimenting with words for learning and practicing spelling Ensures that students will read, spell, and use high- frequency and commonly misspelled words correctly Learn unfamiliar words We will add to our knowledge and curiosity of unique and interesting words- million dollar words
