Electrophoresis of DNA on a agarose gel Description Agarose gel electrophoresis separates DNA fragments according to their size. DNA molecule is digested with restriction enzyme, and the agarose gel electrophoresis is used to visualize the fragments. During this process, an electric current is used to move the DNA molecules Since DNA is negatively charged, DNA will move to the positive (red) pole.

Purpose and effect of the Gel Red GelRed is an intercalating nucleic acid stain used in molecular biology for agarose gel electrophoresis. Structurally, GelRed is closely related to ethidium bromide and consists of two ethidium subunit. With the help of a gel red, we can visualized samples at a UV machine.
